hi to anyone interested in my thread. i want to get as many ideas and answers for this thing on my mind. first of all i just want to say that i just ordered a few items or so off of bladehq.com i got a few maxpedition items most importantly a fat boy versipack, a spyderco endura 4 w/ffg blade, a spyderco aqua salt fixed blade dive knife and last but not least at all a spyderco street beat. which i am anxiously waiting to recieve all of them at once in the mail.:) i also want to add that i never ever been on a plane and im planning a trip to florida soon. and want to know how would i be able to bring all of these knives with me to my vacation spot. i dont want to get any of the knives confiscated or lost what is the best method of traveling with knives ? and what is restricted and what is not? what procedures do i need to do to make my visit to the airport less stressfull and not look like a paranoid mad man who carries lots of knives. i know im not allowed to put the knives in my carry on bag aboard the plane so what do i do when i get there? tell someone i have them? it would be much appreciated for anyone who helps, thanks.

if your taking a bag thats going to be in the cargo bay of the plane just wrap them up in a plastic bag, and stuff them in there along side your toiletries, this works every time in the continental US (ive traveled on at least 10 flights with my ka-bar and kukri), over seas is another matter, but just in case i always tell the front desk. hope you have fun flying its a blast and same with florida, just watch out for them mosquitoes.

and if any knife is in your EDC id double check to make sure you dont have it on person, last time i did that i had to throw it away, so glad it was a cheapo

Many organized dives do not allow knives (according to my brother, the dive nut). When I travel by air with knives, I get a knife that is not too expensive and can be disassembled. I seperate the knife into its components and pack the handle in one suitcase and the blade in another. The small parts (screws, springs, rockers, etc.) can be in your carry on stuff. The point is opportunistic thieves are not interested in knife kits. If you fly somewhere for a cruise, you can assemble your knife on the boat. If you take the knife into town, it will probably be confiscated when you reboard the ship. Usually the knife will be returned when you leave the ship for the last time. Many foreign countries have strict prohibitions on knives (like Mexico). Don't end up ion the Tijuana jail.

Put them in your checked luggage with a lock. You don't have to tell anyone that you have a knife in there. Once you get to Florida you're good to go, under 4" concealed folder or open carry fixed blade. I've flown in and out of here several times without any problems having knives in checked luggage.

have you ever had stuff stolen during a flight? just curious because i think the only time ive ever had that happen was when my grandpas old zippo leaked and TSA took it

and twid dont the TSA cut your locks?

I fly at least 2 or 3 times year if not more. I often fly from one Asian country to another and usually take a trip back to the UK once a year. I always take knives with me on a trip and sometimes take a few depending on what I am planing to do.

I have never had any problems with knives in my checked lugage going into any country so far. Even places that do want to have a look have never actually taken anything from me. The last time I few home to the UK I hade about 25 Spydercos and a few custom knives in my bag and that was not a problem. Just pack them properly and don't have them just sitting about your bag. I usually wrap them in a bit of corrigated cardboard and tape that up then wrap that in a few t-shirts or a pair of jeans. :)
