Hey guys, I've been thinking about changing my edc, and swapping out my full size multitool for a keychain multitool and a knife combo. as I carry a full size multitool in my work backpack with a small tool kit and I don't really use my multitool at work much anymore, so there's no reason to continue to carry a full size tool on my person. Is there anyone who switched to carrying a mini multitool and a knife combo and what are your favorites to carry?

I limit my made in you know where purchases to an absolute minimum, but they are unrivaled in the doodad category. This item fits easily into my front pocket wallet. It has a blade and several sort of tools. I paid about one half of the msrp a few years back, it is probably a reasonable value for the market price. I have just about any style of folder and pocket fixed blade there are, some multitools too, but this is what I carry.

What specific tools do you frequently use from your multitool?
Since I changed jobs in November pretty much just a knife and pliers the biggest reason I carry a multitool is for the screwdrivers and pliers but my new job has me assigned to a box truck with a tool box full of tools so my multitool hardly sees use I frequently use a razor knife at work and pliers once in a while

As I work in an office, my default EDC is a CRK small Inkosi paired with a victorinox Rambler and a Rovyvon aurora flashlight on my keychain

Knife, pliers, and screwdrivers are called a Leatherman Skeletool.
The Juice and Squirt work well too. Depends on how much pliers you need.

I think they are fine to save a walk to the truck.
I've tried Gerber MTs, but their quality falls drastically as they get more expensive.

I have mixed feelings about multitools in general. I own a Leatherman PST, Leatherman Charge TTI and Leatherman PS4. The first two don't see much use at all and the last one... well... it comes with me in my sky touring outings just in case a binding needs adjustment or a multifuel stove requires tinkering.

Other than that, my feeling is that if you need to use a multitool in a rgular basis, you are doing it wrong and should be carring the real full size tools instead. Pliers in the most recent models are not that uncomfortable to use, but nowhere near a pair of decent pliers. The screwdrivers are only suitable for shallow placements, as they don't have a long shaft to reach recessed heads and are difficult to turn as the handles are not symetrical. The knives... meh... we all know they do cut, but any dedicated folding knife is going to be more comfortable...

So... if you don't plan on using it and carry it just in case... ok, perfect. Either on you or (better) in the backpack if it is full size. A PS4 or similar weights very little and can go in the keychain if you want.

I often go out with a Leatherman Squirt P4 or a SOG Powerpint in my pocket and a full size folding knife such as my CRK Inkosi or a Spyderco Endura clipped to my pocket. Can this combo handle anything that I might come up against? No, but it will handle most situations that I encounter daily.
