The topic of pool came up in another thread. Instead of hijacking that thread, I am posting this thread for those who may have a second addiction involving pool/billiards/snooker etc. I suspect that at least a few have been bitten by the cue sports bug. Amirite?

A pic. I have transitioned from classic wood cues to carbon fiber. I used to reserve the carbon fiber cues for 9 foot tables, due to the power they can generate in moving the cue ball. Basically, I would tend to over-run the cue ball on bar box tables or draw it too far, but this was not as big an issue on the big tables. I have finally tuned in my stroke to adjust and now use carbon fiber exclusively. My cues are Cuetec: a Breach Break and an SVB with 5 inch extension. The knives are a Buck 112 Sport Knife, a Cold Steel Voyager, and a Civivi Chevalier in Damascus. Let's see what you got:

I'm old; my Balabushka is long gone. Which I only used for practice (I worked at a pool hall in HS and first year of college) as I played for a bit of money back in the day, and never used custom cues for that misbegotten exercise.

We only used whatever cues were available at the bars and pool halls we played. And we ALWAYS knew where the back doors or bathroom windows were, just in case.

Why risk such an asset in a dirty pool hall? I am half afraid to show up with my Cuetecs. There are a lot of broke arse pool players with sticky fingers, at least at some of the places I have visited.

Plain Jane Bushkas have been going for ludicrous money for quite some time!!!
A friend sold his couple years ago for $17000.

I played in the late 60's-early 70's. They cost real money then, but it was in the hundreds ($300 & change if I recall, and that was a lot of money back then). My friends also had customs, but I can't recall their names. Maybe Rich, and another company, can't remember.

Which is why I never took a custom cue to where I played for money. Oh, I was okay, but not the best by far. But if you walk into a pool hall or bar with a cue case, you are putting a target on your back. Because I was skinny, young, and had long hair (when that would get you beat up), people assumed I wasn't any good. That was my biggest asset.

So many small shop high quality makers out there. Here in St. Louis we have Terbrock, among a few others. Someone offered me a used one at a couple grand, I passed. I do not have the collectors itch with respect to pool cues. Knives fill that void just fine.

We also have a bunch here in NJ.
Dunkle & Capone are 2 of the better known ones.

If you hustle, one uses a house cue. If you are with real players, one uses your own cue. I use a 17oz Mali, 30 yo, but break with a 21oz house cue. I like wood cues.
