it's obvious that you can't have 'em anymore. (the topic's wording was to get people in here.. hehe)

i was at my HighSchool today, i had some free time in a class that i have computer access and net access. so i decided to see how the forum was doing.

I COULDN'T GET TO IT!

they had bladeforums.com blocked.

i then tried spyderco.com and coldsteel.com. they were all blocked. WHY!?!?!?!?!

would they rather i bring the weapons in to show my friends? i think looking at them on the net, where they can't hurt anyone, is totally reasonable.

While it's true that I grew up in an era when young men were allowed to carry pocketknives, and you live in a politically correct, protect our children from all possible harm, kind of world --

Maybe it's just that they want you to use the computers for studying, and not for your entertainment???

i thought that too... but there is so much wasted time... i'm a friggin' senior. there's no reason for me to do work in a month. i'll either be accepted to cllege OR ready for community college... hehe

even at lunch breaks, we can use the computers in the library. sites like http://www.r33t.org and http://www.steakandcheese.com and http://www.stileproject.com are totally available, while sites that aren't obscene and grotesque are blocked.

(don't goto those sites if you want to eat later.)

i just looked at one of the sites you listed. i saw the top and that was enough for me. i didn't bother to scroll down. i'm a college freshman, so i was in your place all of a year ago. my friend we live in a time of political correctness and we have the publicity of the recent school shootings to blame for the tightened restrictions. i'm with you, it's extremely dumb. why people can't look at a knife, but can look at that stuff is beyond me.

unocide,

The sites you referenced that are accessible at your school are blocked by the system where I work! That being the case they probably should be at your school!

As you are aware, there is no making sense of these things. If it is not permissible to check out Bladeforums, is it permissible to access other forums on your school computers? How is what is permissible determined? These are honest questions, but I bet if you asked them of anyone in authority at your school you would be called argumentative and labelled a troublemaker!

I am glad you are a senior. Just bide your time and you will be out of the foolishness.

My knives are just like rabbits---they keep multiplying!!

It's the same way at my school, though I was able to find a FEW knife places I could get into. I'm not quite sure why some can be accessed, and some can't. I am able to access all sorts of outdoor product places (My most recent addition to my personal fave places is www.northernmountain.com , where they're selling Dana Design external frame packs REAL cheap). I was able to get into www.missionknives.com , but I couldn't look at any of the products. I'm just trying to deal with it. The problem is that I'm a "teacher's assistant", which basically means I have a free period, but I'm supposed to support to the media center. Just find a good book instead.

Guns and knives in schools aren't new issues. When I was in grammar school in CA, in the late '50's, we had both. Everyone carried a pocket knife, and when you were going to spend the night with a friend after school, you brought your rifle or shotgun to school (in a case) and left it in the office.

The principal taught a safe gun handling class to the 7th and 8th grades (about 25 kids total), and he brought his 1911 .45 as well as .32 and .25 cal. automatics to demonstrate. We also had NRA sanctioned hunter safety classes.

Things sure sound different now. Walt

walt, i wish i could've had those kind of things at my school. it would be great to teach people the proper way to use guns and knives, rather than teach them to fear them. but to suggest such a thing makes you a "right-wing radical".

The powers that be have everyone scared to death. It escapes me how reading about cutting tools could in any way be harmful to our youth.
