I work around wet areas a bit, ponds pools washing the cars. How do Bechmade knives with the Axis lock handle wetness. I own both a 710 in D2 and a 940 in S30V, I also have a CRKT M16-13T which has handled water great. So how does it stack up? Does it need be be blown dry with an air compressors and WD-40 then re lubed? Or just blown out?

I don't want to ruin them so wanna make sure I know how to work with them.

Check this link out if you're unsure of how the Griptilian works around water or dirt or sand or anything else you might throw at it:

There's four videos there of the Griptilian being dipped in all kinds of crap and then how the lock holds up.

When I get my Griptilian wet though, I just dry it as thoroughly as I can with a paper towel and compressed air/hair dryer. I've never had to re lube it though and it's still as smooth as the day I got it.

I have a Ritter mini grip that I had soaked in water then paper towel + air dry. I think it is always a good idea to avoid getting water on your knives. You should check out the Spyderco H1 knives for aqua use

I've gotten all my knives wet at one time or another, mostly on the job. I just towel dry and back in the pocket it goes. I have had zero problems with rust. I'm talking stainless steel and coated D2, not 1095 or similar.

I like the Benchmade knives a lot, but if you use a folding knife around the water on a routine basis I would highly recommend you check out the Spyderco "Salt" series of knives with H1 steel.

Thanks for the input, I don't work with water that much so this would just be what precautions I need to think about after I'm done on the occasional water werks.

Also consider the hardware on the knife being used around water. The blade may be reasonably water resistant but the hardware may not be ... that's why the H1 Spyderco knives are so ideal for the application, even the hardware is rust proof.

I'll 2nd, 3rd and 4th a salt model. They are fantastic knives and can handle the punishment.

I'm sure the the H1 Spyderco knives are swell. But truth be told, none of the modern stainless knives from quality manufacturers have a problem handling wetness. I used to have an ATS-55 Endura that I carried regularly to the beach and on many a fishing trips (including clipped to my pants while I casted for bass chest deep in a Central Florida lake) and I NEVER had a problem with corrosion. I'm sure the Benchmade Axis lock knives will handle moisture just fine. Personally, I think on a day-to-day or as-needed basis, just blowing out the knife with compressed air would be fine. Once in a while you could give it the WD-40 treatment then re-lube. Depends on how much you like fussing with your knives. I used to rinse that ATS-55 Endura in the sink, wipe it down with a dish towel, then call it a day. Once or twice a year, I'd drop a tiny bit of Rem Oil into the pivot.

You guys are just trying to get me to buy MORE knives, at least SC's are cheaper than others.
