Pretty much all of us here have been bitten by the knife bug, but how many of you guys spread the sickness around the holidays (or birthdays, or whatever)?
I think knives would make great gifts for some people, but honestly most of my family and friends wouldn't really appreciate a knife as a gift, so I've never given one as a christmas gift. What do you guys think about knives as gifts?
This year, though, I was talking to my Dad (who carries around a little SAK most of the time, a 'Driver' model I think) about a couple of knives that his father, my grandfather, used to use. He mentioned a few Grohmann knives (my grandfather lived very near the Grohmann factory in Pictou and it turns out he knew the founder personally), and one slipjoint Case knife. They were all lost at some point or another after my grandfather passed, so I don't really know what it looked like. I dug up pictures of a few different designs and materials, thought, and Dad determined that it was probably either a Small Texas Jack or a Peanut, with amber bone handles.
Long story short, I ordered one a little while ago and am looking forward to seeing how he feels about carrying around the same style of knife that served his father so well.
