My wife and I are planning a bit of a late Christmas present to ourselves, and are going to head down to Disney World for a while this January. Has anyone been there who knows their policy on knives?

I know some places (*cough cough* Silverdome *cough cough* are hardcore using metal detectors, but would a SAK or something cause any trouble?

Let’s see if we can find the right forum …

I don't know their policy, but I have been down to their parks for the past 5 years or so in a row. They don't use metal detectors.

They do a bag check, but not a very thorough one. As long as they can't see the C-4 sticking out of your bag, you are all set. I have carried in all the parks, Seaworld and Universal included, and have not had an issue.

I think if you are discreet, it's no big deal.

I did go to a concert at the House of Blues in Downtown Disney, and they did a patdown search there.

I did just check their site, and it does state "no weapons of any kind".

What the heck does that mean?

Probably it means that they decide what might be a weapon and you can't complain. Broader, more vague. I mean, if they said "no knives" you could argue hey, this is a leatherman, its not a "knife".

That sums it up pretty well.

As long as you don't try to walk in with some gigantic folder or fixed blade bulging out, you should be fine.

If they see it they will have an issue but last time I was there they had not metal detectors.
Just keep a modest folder deep in your pocket. A SAK or medium to small slipjoint would be a good choice.

disney world, like many attractions and venues, is a private entity on private property.

they will almost certainly have more stringent rules than local and state laws.

disneyland, in anaheim, ca, also has a no weapons policy. anaheim pd has a detail that works the park.

but i dont think they use metal detectors and bag checks are at a minumum.

six flags on the other hand....

Kings Island in Ohio uses metal detectors. they didnt much like the fact of me trying to enter their park with a Boker auto. But they got over it when i displayed my police id. they still would not let me enter the park without leaving it behind. i told them its silly to disarm a police officer.,,,oh well,,VWB.

Sorry to hear that VWB, that's just wrong on so many damn levels.

I entered Busch Gardens in Tampa in June 07 and as I walked in some 100 feet, two security guys walked up to me and asked why I had a knife (was with my sweetheart and her two girls,9 and 12). No biggie, I showed my Credentials, didnt call it a knife because regardless of what anybody feels, It is a tool for me and has been so since I got my first one as a cub scout. Kinda rolled my eyes and I guess they figured they would be in for a debate and said, "thanks, have a nice time". I used my 'knife', (a benchmade mini reflex auto) to cut the tags off several overpriced teddy bears and other souvenier crap... Rules and over zealous door shakers... gotta love em
