Of course we Forum members love our knives. But sometimes I forget and have to be reminded that John Q public often sees them as evil-even more so then guns which even the most liberal tolerates in some cases(police, security, etc.)
I was recently at court in Philadelphia downtown.Of course there were long lines at the metal detectors. I saw a sign stating you must check in your cell phone. I was also pleased to see a sign stating that anyone legally carrying a firearm with a permit was too secure them in provided lockers. No need to go unarmed on your way too court.
However.....another sign stated that ANY type of knife, razor or cutting implement would be seized and not returned. No provision too check them in at all. So in theory I could carry and check in my gun but if I were carrying a Buck 110 or such instead it would be taken.

Sounds like you weren't carrying anything (or going in) Tim. Or if you were/did, what happened? I would definitely complain about this. Here in Columbus, I've heard that stuff can be checked in at our courthouse, although I haven't been there lately to see for sure.

This is indeed, a LOAD OF CRAP!

Gitcha a shovel and see what kind of trouble you can dig up for these s***brains. Complain, and get some friends to complain, too. A letter to the ed of your local paper might be nice, along with a call to your representative. Of course, emphasize knives like SAKs and penknives, etc., not "large tacticals."

Could be a waste of time, too, I suppose. There are so many things these days to get angry about, aren't there?

No the only thing I was carrying was the forbidden cell phone whivch I checked in. Everything now can be discussed in pre and post 9/11 when it involves security issues. I was last there 8 months ago and talked them into letting me carry a small Sypderco inside. Earlier at the US Capital I was able to take a serrated co-pilot inside. However all has changed post 9/11 so I went to court with no kind of knife however small. The idea of a shovel is a hoot. If I wore overalls maybe I could 've taken a pick inside also. I have a carry permit but didn't know abot the lockers so left the artillery at home too.
In case your curious why I was at court. My parents still lived in Philly. Last year my father was killed in a violent home invasion robbery. Three thugs with guns. It was on all the news stations. The family of one suspect convinced the court to allow him to wear an ankle monitor and come home during the trial. On the third day he cut the monitor off and escaped.

Tim, so sorry to hear of that. An awful story to be sure. I hope the escapee will be caught and brought to justice and I hope you make peace with it all.
