So I was thinking about the tacticool trend and who made great knives before this fad caught on. Emerson,al mar,and microtech and that's all I could think of. I have seen more Emerson's in war zones than the rest by far which says something. Now the market is flooded with tacticool knives that just don't cut it in real life some do but not many maybe 3 I can think of and they just don't have the history or the long term testing and use to compete IMO. So what are y'all's thoughts?

I wouldn't call Chris Reeve Knives "tactical knives". More like "luxury EDC knives". I'm bias because I love Emersons, but I think they make the best tactical folders on the market.

Emerson by the most part make legitimate "Practical Tactical" knives, and then there is is "Irrational Tacticool" These are the companies such as MTech, WarTech, Tac Force, with the gimmicky handles with dragons and what not.
So my question to you is, what is your definition of tacticool? Because Emersons, Spyderco, Al Mars and Microtechs blades are alright on my watch, most of them.

Are you saying you have been deployed in the Military? Or just from what you've read/heard? There's a reason there is an abundance of Ernie's blades out there :)

I was a contractor for many years and also did executive protection. I was comparing the companies who started it all. Emerson,Al mar, Microtech were really the 1st ones ones to address the combat folder. I'm not saying that there aren't other companies out there that make good products I was more going for the companies that started it all if that makes sense. So no I'm no armchair wannabe. Well now I am thanks to a large explosion that took me out of the game.

Kershaws...I guess tacticool may have been the wrong word...so my bad.
I should have thought of better wording....like...pioneers in combat folders.

I agree. ^ I view the Emerson knife as a combat, military style knife.
Emerson understand this role perfectly.

There is a reason Emerson has been around for awhile and it's not cuz they got it wrong.
