Guys I have a request:
I have a Ka-Bar USMC 7" blade with the Kraton grip. I really like the knife, it's an American Classic. But I know its limitations. I am looking for other knives that would fit the role that the Ka-Bar does, but in a sturdier format. What I mean by sturdier is something that doesn't have the narrowed down tang. I have been looking lustfully at the Ontario SP42. Any other makes and models appreciated.

Thanks,
John

The Blackjack model 14 is very heavy duty utility/fighting knife, with a thicker and slightly longer blade than a KABAR. I have used mine to take and clean a mojave rattlesnake.

You, sir are describing the Kabar Becker BK7.

I have a stacked leather USMC, and for the exact reasons you have described I have just ordered a Becker BK-7.

I understand why you would want a full tang, I love full and exposed tangs because I love overkill. And thats exactly what they might be, overkill. Have you seen the couple threads going on right now about the Mora tangs? Some of the tangs dont even go half way down the handle but people are batoning with them. Makes be wonder if the full tangs are really needed or not.

Whether or not they are actually needed, I like me some big tangs :)

A Kabar is technically a full tang, but it's not a very thick tang.
