Other than the spyderco salts and that one benchmade knife, are there any other people using h1 out there? I am looking for a H1 knife for a friend and want to see my options, if any. . . thanks

If you're thinking of David Boye, his knives are made from dendritic cobalt, not H1.

The Benchmade H2O knives now use X15 steel rather than H1. I know very little about this steel (AFAIK, only BM has used it, and there aren't many reports yet of its performance). It appears similar though, using nitrogen instead of carbon.

That leaves the Spyderco Salt series. The Salt-1 (Delica sized), the Pacific Salt (Endura sized), the Atlantic Salt (93mm Rescue sized), and the upcomming Tasman Salt (Merlin sized hawkbill). Within these choices are yellow or black handles, plain edge or fully serrated blades. Word is that Spyderco is working on a couple fixed blades in H1, but only vague details (now there's an oxymoron) have been spoken about them.

Well, if H1 is hard to come by, what of the other steels is most comparable for rust resistance? I am trying to find a knife for my friend that wont rust. Pref. a fixed blade and tough, about a 5" blade or so.

Thanks for the help

The X-15 steel actually has both Nitrogen and Carbon in it. Boker has been using it in a handful of knives for the past few years.

They claim performance meeting or exceeding that of 440C, with much better corrosion resistance. I haven't personally tried it, but I'd like to. I've heard good things about it. And it has been mentioned on BladeForums here in the past, too. A search should turn up a few references.

Might want to look at the Boker Orca or Beluga. They use the X15 steel.

What is its intended use? If its going to be a dive knife, you might want to find out if they(your friend) prefers a bull nose or a sharp point. I never felt comfortable carrying around a pointed knife when diving or snorkeling. If its general purpose, disregard this post.
