All, These are the knives on order for the upcoming destructive testin program here at Buck. We have started testing all of our models and will start testing competitors soon. Knives were chosen to be the same or similiar size as a 110 and Lockback or linerlock only. Side locks will be done in future. I am still trying to work out how much data they will let me release. Our product is no problem, but they are concerned about letting compitor results go out for liability purposes.

Too bad about the liability associated with releasing competitors data. I know you will release as much as you can. I'm looking forward to reading the results.

I haven't gotten to do what I want with one and beat on it really, but I did get a chance to see it. The tip bothers me. It's almost like they didn't know whether to make it a clip point or a spear point, and just did half of each. Only thing I got to cut with it was a piece of cardboard, which it did rather well. Not my first choice, I have seen better knives in the same, and even lower price range.

....which is why I'm curious to see how it does on this test, because I haven't really gotten to "use" one yet...

Tuff I have two jetedge sogs the two small screws on the clip both have striped out.have allready sent it in once for repair.that realy is the only problem I have had with it.

Tuff I ordered a buck carbon fiber, realy think it is better than the sog,sog need's to put a better lock and a liner on the opposite side.and for the clip they need to drill and tap through the liner to secure the clip.sogs machine work and finish work is real nice, but I think buck can out do them.

Jeff hope you let us see a few of the test results

The clip sounds like junk. Oh well, not every knife can be a winner. I don't see many Buck folders of any sort at my local store, or in many catalogs. Can't order via internet - no credit card.

All,
Just ordered $10,000 (sugg retail) of Knives to test. The is over 150 knives. Picked up the 1st ones yesterday.
The only ones we could not get yet are the Magnas.
My 1st impression of the ones I picked up yesterday is that these are some well made knives. All were tight, well machined and cosmetics were good. Most knives from competitors that I look at are in someone's pocket and pretty well used. This is the largest competitor study we've done to date. Joe will have all the reports when we get done, so work on him to release as much info as possible

We'll have the rest of the knives in next week, then the real fun begins.

CJ and our head of Engineering are going to the ACMA meeting next month to work on starting an industry standard for testing of knives for strength, and other parameters. I think this is a good move for the industry, then all results can be made public and be apples to apples comparisons.

That is enough alone for me to want to support Buck. Make the results of testing on your knives public and set a class act for others to follow.

I agree with Cliff. This is great that CJ is doing this...the whole industry and customers will benefit from the effort by Buck. Glad to see it happen.

Jeff,

I was just wondering about the Kershaw knives you picked to test. You stated that,

"Knives were chosen to be the same or similiar size as a 110 and Lockback or linerlock only."

The Kershaw KS-1045A Black Colt II and the KS-3320 Black Gulch II are both quite a bit smaller than a Buck 110.

However; the KS-3340 Wildcat Ridge II ,the KS-1050 Folding Field Knife, and the KS-1060A Black Horse II are all three closer to the size of a Buck 110.

Buck 110 - 4 7/8"
Kershaw 3340 - 4 7/8"
Kershaw 1050 - 4 3/4"
Kershaw 1060A - 5"

The Kershaw Black Colt II (only 4") and the Black Gulch II (4 1/8") are both significantly smaller than the Buck-110.

Just wondering.

you are including a clip-hanger knife in the tests? I snapped two different clip-hangers in half with my hands, and the liner is as thick as a few pieces of paper. Well I understand the liability issue now.

Excaliber,
I should have said 110/112 range. There were alot more models we could have tested including all you mention, but had to keep an eye on the funding and try to get as much as we could for our budgeted $. We are dedicated to doing more models on a regular basis. If the industry standardizes testing, alot of testing will be going on.

Gen Lobster,
We have some cliphangers on the list.
