i am thinking of buying knives as birthday presents for 2 of my friends: one of them is addicted to fishing, the other one likes backpacking/outdoor activities

both of them are into knives, but they have older models / low-end stuff: the 'fisherman' is very fond of his Schrade old timer, while the 'outdoorsman' has a bunch of S&Ws

i have two ideas so far:
- folders: benchmade griptilian for the 'outdoorsman' / spyderco pacific salt for the 'fisherman'
- fixed blades: SOG team leader / spyderco aqua salt

maybe you guys can help me out with some other ideas?!?
the budget is roughly around $150 for both presents, so no sebenzas please ;)

I used to like a Normark 'Deluxe Hunting' (fixed blade) for fishing. Not sure they still make that model, but Cold Steel have just produced a knife that looks identical.

You might also check out the Brusletto Fisksprett (again if they still make it.)

Or you could just get them a dozen Moras! :)

where are people buying the moras from? Looking for online dealer in the states to buy some moras and some fire steel... anybody???

thanks,

g

Sorry G, can't help you as I'm in the UK. Try the Wildreness & Survival forum though, plenty of US Mora fans there to point you in the right direction.

Thanks Guys,

Didn't mean to hijack thread... just been looking for Moras to see what the fuss is all about... and also can't find fire striking steel anywhere local. Back to the original question... I saw a Fallkniven F1 online for about $70... that would be a great deal. I field tested my Gerber LMF II Asek (US Made) this past weekend and have nothing but high regards for it. Also can be found online now for $60-70 US. Another thought is multi tools for both... especially for the fisherman.. It's what i find most usefull.
