I think that you will find that most manufactures are phasing out dedicated left hand knives because people don't buy then, and Dealers don't order them.

I would really like to see Spyderco make more knives with reversible clips. This is the answer for people who are left handed, or right handers who want a knife for the off side.

Well, the new compression lock and a reversable clip may make all our left- handedness problems go away...We'll just have to see!

Genuine lefty models are rare. Not only would the pocket clip need be reversed but also the locking mechanisms if it is other than a lockback type. The Axis lock mechanism however, seems to be filling this void.

As a lefty KnifeNut, I am always looking for them, and I do buy them. They do sell, just not as many. I do understand that they can be un-economical to do, but ambi's are great. I very much dislike when a right-hand liner lock has been given a reversible clip to appease us lefty's. I've had a CRKT and a Benchmade both unlock and close on me when using a right-handed liner lock in my left hand. It is very easy to do on many knives. If you squeeze hard, your fingers impart a slight torque to the knife. If that just happens to be on the lock, watch out! The offending CRKT and BM now live in a toolbox, probably never to be used again.

I don't really care if a knife is truly left-handed, or truly ambidextrous, as long as it's reliable and trustworthy in my left hand. But simple fixes to a not so simple problem don't work for me. Glad they do for others, though. The more left-handed friendly knives are sold, the more will be made, and the more I can buy!

Though I have about 10 Spyderco's and like them all, my normal carry knives are a Benchmade 710 and 705. The new compression lock might just roost them out, which I would welcome. Can't wait to see...

Presumably we'll know more in June, after the Blade Show, but it seems that the Compression Lock works in a sideways motion, so it remains to be seen how well it will work with the "other" hand.

A lockback with a reversable clip is as ambidextrous as they get. So is an Axis Lock. I've found that Benchmade "switchblades" work as well with my left index finger as they do with my right thumb, but they don't come with a reversable clip.

As a dealer, I like ambidextrous designs, as opposed to right-only (excluding lefty customers who cannnot or would rather not adapt) or right and left (inventory costs!). Any day now, if it's not here already, we're going to see a thread begging for a left-handed Gunting. That means a left-handed trainer too. That turns two fairly expensive SKU's into four.
