Knives for Nostalgia's Sake...

You know, I know it's useless as the left tit on a boar hog but, for the last week or so I've been eyeballing the knife from First Blood, the knife from Rambo: First Blood Pt.II, Rambo III and Rambo (the fourth one).
The first two are, famously or infamously depending upon which end is up, aluminum hollow handles with a "survival kit". The third and fourth are Hibbens, the fourth probably being the most useful of the four.

Here's the thing, if I were to buy either of the two from the first two movies (I'm leaning heavily towards buying the one from "First Blood") it wouldn't be to use.

I'm actually thinking of buying the knife just because of the nostalgic or sentimental value the movie has to me. It's part of the reason I'm the woods-nut that I am, and even my old man reminisces about me running around with a knife on my hip and "playing Rambo".

My question is, am I the only guy in the room that this is happening to? Is it because I'm getting older? Or does this happen to you guys/gals, too? Anybody else have any nostalgia knives that are just there to bring back memories when you hold them? :o

You know, like that knock-off "survival knife" I keep around and smile at everytime I hold it...you know the ones I'm talking about: dull as a sandstone, crappy material, inch-long rattail tang held on with a double nut setup...if you're lucky, and a "survival kit" in the handle...

I like the cleaver/chopper from the 4th, the first blood one would still get me worked up for the same reasons.
One of the only movies my dad took me to see twice after much nagging and extra chores.
Many afternoons setting traps and playing Rambo in the vacant acre lot across the street.

Nothing wrong with collecting knives just for sentimental or aesthetic value!

There are plenty of guys here who look down their nose at that sort of thing, they claim that it's stupid or "mall ninja" to buy anything that isn't made from super steel and ment for serious bushcraft. But then who TRUELY needs more than 2 or 3 blades anyway? ...if you have more than that you are a collector of knives you do not need.

I love all kinds of blades, mostly I like users like Fallkniven, Swamp Rat, Benchmade and such, but I also like movie knives and swords. Growing up I thought the Rambo knives were the coolest things around and ithey are partly why I still love knives today!

Some of the movie blades I've owned include: Rambo I and III, the knife from Cobra, the claymore from Braveheart, and most of the LOTR swords. ...I wouldn't use them but they look great, feel great in the hand, and make good wall hangers and discusion starters!

Hey, if you like them than that's all that matters! :)

This is sorta the reason I bought the CRK&T Hisshou. I'll never use it for anything realistic, zombies, unfortunately, are not realistic, but I loved everything about the look of it. I have it hanging on the wall currently.

Nothing wrong with buying knives that you will not use.
