Personally, I love the idea of the monthly sale. It offers a twofold effect, those who follow you regularly can see what is in the works, and get a Great price on a Really damn good knife while making it easier on you (having to grind 4-5 of the same knives in quick succession, similar handle shapes, et al).
This also allows people that are new to JK Knives to get their feet wet while not feeling like they are dedicating a two month knife allowance on one piece that they aren't sure if they will like (we all know they will, but hey, I am playing the devils advocate here).
Conversely, making knives directly available for delivery will keep a stock of knives that move at a quicker pace then some of your less frequently sold ones. While they may sell once a month, it is income that isn't required to have the overhead and "customer time" sunk into it.
You make a knife, if it sells in two months, it sells. If not, get what you have remaining and throw together an "Overstock Blowout Sale" and post them all in the exchange at the "Monthly sale" price drops.
A: you are already comfortable with that price
B: others will see this as a good time to grab a custom knife for a good price.
C: it will remedy the issue that has been raised to me via PMs recently when I was suggesting your knives to someone. There isn't much of an array in available knives, one tin knife or key chain knife w/o scales , one EO1 in shorter length, one around a CBK/GBH OAL, and your recent camp knife size.
That would be 4-5 knives in stock with a full range of sizes covered. That wouldn't be much out of pocket. With the time frame that would be needed, you would be looking at next spring as a launch. So a decent JK Knives Spring Event type thing would fit right in. Sell people on gearing up for a great camp season with a great camp knife.
- A friend was looking for a good camp knife and he wasn't sure what he wanted. I showed your site to him and told him to give it a look over and if there was anything that caught his eye, even if it needed some changes, to let me know. He jad seen a few, but didn't want to spend the time to have something made for him, but he was curious as to what you had available since he had a camping trip coming up.
(Still) long story shortened, he picked up an opinel and had me mod it for him.
This way he didn't drain his knife allowance and is still in the market for something for his next trip, but there is no rush for a good knife now...
