Bill McWilliams started a thread about giving knives for Christmas:

Just wondering how well they were received. I got my brother-in-law a Spyderco Moran (The newer version). He absolutely LOVES it. He went on a hunting trip last week and bagged his first two deer of the season. He said the knife field dressed both deer and would still shave the hair off his arm. He said the rest of his hunting party was very impressed as well and at least one of them has ordered one. He now takes the knife with him wherever he goes. If he goes somewhere that would frown on him wearing it he at least has it in the car. It really makes me feel good that I gave him a present that he really enjoys.

I gave several Victorinox SAK Classic knives, as no one else in my family is a big knife nut. They liked them, and I know my sister-in-law uses hers for lots of little chores. It's little and obviously not a hard-use knife, but around the office (where she works) it does everything she needs. Also, she sings in a band; someone needed a screwdriver to fix one of their instruments and she used her knife to do the repair right on the stage.

I gave out a bunch of knives. All were well received. Two fairly interesting comments, however.

My sister, while looking at the SAK Golfer that I gave to my 19 y.o. nephew says, "That looks dangerous". I tell her that I think there has yet to be a reported fatality by a divot replacer.

I also gave knives to my wife, son-in-law and five children. After the presents were opened my 71 y.o. Mother comes over, puts her arm around me and asks why she didn't get a knife and don't I care if she can protect herself. You could have knocked me over with a feather. So now it's knife shopping for Mum. Ya gotta love it.
