Knives from gun barrels

I see the new AG Russell catalog has knives listed as made from Mauser and Luger barrels.
Is this type of steel good for knife making or just an attention getter?

It depends. Are they forge welded with other (cutlery) steels?

This one was made from the tank barrel of a Leopard tank forge welded to O2 tool steel.

Anyone know why he keeps his anvil wet?

And I'm guessing it could be hardenable (gun barrels). would it make the best knife in the world though? Probably not, but I guess that isn't the point when forging it out of a gun barrel.
