Knives from our fathers...

thought I'd share some knives given to me by my father, or grandfathers. none are valuable by good knife standards; to me they are still priceless for the stories behind them:

The one on the right, my dad let me get from an add in the back of a comic book. I had visions of a switch blade, throwing knife etc. When I got it, it was about 1/2" long! I learned a lesson about advertising then! I also threw this knife and damaged it, when dad saw it he took it away for punishment - not taking proper care of my knife!

This next group were all in a box my dad gave me at 8yrs old:

This, my dad's navy knife:

This, my dad's scout knife (full size utensils:D)

This one he took fishing with him, jabbed it into a skate to kill it, and his wet hand slid down the blade; badly cutting tendons when he was a teen. he had to row back into shore and go to hospital; still can't close that hand fully:

a cool dagger:

continued...

a rambo survival knife he got for me w/ kit in handle (my first KIT now that I think of it LOL); I had to have when first blood came out! I did a youtube video opening the matches for the first time recently; they were over 25 years old; check it out to see what happened!

The one on the left was my mom's dad's pocket knife; the one on the right was my dad's dad's pocket knife. note the wear on the blade from years of sharpening. he tought me to sharpen a knife, measure w/ a ruler, tie most of the knots I use today, he made those make-shift sheaths you see in some of the pics for those fixed blades. God I wish he were here to meet my kids!

Very nice, quite a few from the generations. A couple of those look like they might be "theater" knives, knives made by servicemen on deployment.

I have several -

The first is my father's boyhood knife, he got it when he was about 13. It's an old Shapleigh.

The rest are butcher's knives my father used to process hogs -

I spent many hours with him helping him cut the meat and grind it, then case it. I also helped him cure and smoke pork sausage. Nothing better on a cold winter morning than home made, smoked pork sausage, fried up with brown sugar in an old cast iron pan.

yup; I didn't realize that at first (sorry!) I changed them to photobucket.:o

No knives from my father. My first knife was given to me when I was 8 by my grandfather, a Queen bone handled single blade barlow which I still have some 60 years later.

one knife that is special to me is my grandfathers buck 110. its the knife that got me into knives.

You are all very fortunate to have such 'legacy' knives. Very nice! Old knives always look amazing...

Thanks for sharing!

I have a couple Schrade Old Timer Sharpfingers. One from my dad and the other from his dad.

My dad gave this to me back in the mid to late 70's. I plan on passing it down to my son when he's older.
