Knives from the childhood Or with what knives who began in the childhood.
Below you can see old Russian knifes.
These are typical knives : "Made in the USSR".

Are those forks on two of the knives?

Yes, on two knives there are forks.
Only please do not think that in Russia cut off something and at once eat it.
Tehy are not "Made in Russia " they are Made in USSR" in the seventies of the twentieth century.
It was before "Perestroika".

garry,
I cant get the pictures, mods may have removed because of too large of aspect ratio

Thanks for the photo's Garry, interesting to see knives from the other side of the pond.

Thanks for the pictures.

I was able to visit St. Petersburg in 1996 and I really liked the city.

I remember seeing knives like that, still used by people, when I worked in Russia for a year after the collapse of the USSR. I'd bring over Buck 110s and Swiss Army Knives as gifts to friends and co-workers and they were very impressed with the mirror finished, sharp Bucks and the Swiss Army Knives with all the gadgets. Everyone wanted one of each, a Buck and a SAK.

I was seeing a Russian woman at the time and gifted her father an Orvis fly rod, reel and kit. He would go fishing with a birch pole he had crafted from a knife like those you showed. I mean, he did a good job of crafting the pole, but it had no reel and it wasn't an Orvis. He said he never dreamed that he would ever own something as beautiful as the Orvis outfit and I had the devil of a time trying to convince him to actually use it. He thought it was too beautiful to use.

Unfortunately in Russia 70 years were not normal knives culture.
Any knife was practically under a ban, and was not approved of Public opinion.
20 years of Perestroika , have not so improved position in knives culture.
There were some worthy manufacturers of knifes.
But it has no mass character.

That's too bad. It's slowly getting that way here, it sometimes seems.

When I was growing up, an adult man would no sooner leave the house without a pocket knife than without his pants.

Very much I sympathise to you all.
To me familiarly to cut a clumsy piece of iron instead of a normal knife.
