I bought my father a protect tr4, and a Ka bar tanto , I was hoping he could take this with him to Ecuador . I can't seem to find a straight answer on this?
If he can't take these I want to get him something he can take if at all possible
The Ka-Bar should be fine, assuming it's one of their fixed blades you're talking about, or a manual/assisted folder (make sure it's in checked baggage). The TR4 will be seized by customs if they find it, though, unless your dad only has one arm.
I don't know about anyone else but I have never been through U.S customs leaving the country. It happens when you enter a country and I have no idea what Ecuador's customs are like. DaCheez is right about one thing, that knife would not be legal to bring back to the U.S again if customs found it.
Thanks for your response, yes the ka bar is fixed, so we are good with that. The pro techs I sent back, cause they where not auto like I wanted, and I had a feeling it would get seized by customs, but I still want to get him a nice edc?
