Knives I wish I had bought before they became famous!

I was thinking maybe I should have bought the Sebenza when nobody had heard of Chris Reeves. Then, I should have bought Jerry Busse's knives when he was surviving on burgers and french fries.

Or Tom Mayo's knife when he had long hair and were sea-surfing full time and making knives part time.

Or, maybe Mike Snody's prototype when he was a struggling knife maker.

Oh shucks, my life is full of maybes, and what ifs.... :D

Time to look for that struggling nobody who is going to be a somebody at next year's Blade show! ;)

I agree. I would love to get in on the ground floor, so to speak, with a new maker before they really take off. Not just because your pieces will go up in value, but just to know that you were one of the first to see it coming. And the satisfaction of helping some on achieve their dream.

Just keep your eyes open, there's quite a few makers in here that will be the next big names, as they are making some tremendous blades.

He is going to be a big name someday. I am glad that I bought mine now.

It's probably already too late, but you better get something from Nick Wheeler now. It would be unwise not to.

Kit Carson.
Tom Mayo.
Bill Bagwell.
Bob Loveless.
Darrel Ralph.

Trace Rinaldi back before his waiting list was a mile long and Rob Simonich while he was taking orders, I'm gonna work on getting some of Bill Siegle's stuff before he gets to famous.

There are many knives that I could have bought in the early seventies that I am now kicking myself for passing up. I had the chance to get a slightly used Loveless drop point hunter for under $100.00. Who knew?

A truckload of Japanese swords during the 1950s. :D (along with plenty of Florida swamp land)

Being merely 17, I am able to dodge alot of this guilt as I wasn't alive or old enough to take advantage of when most popular makers were relatively "unknown" anyway.

I do, however, find myself frustrated with my inability to afford a Chris Olofson(sp?) 29 Knives Custom Balisong and fear by the time I can he will be genuinely famous and have a 3-year backlog like Mauricio Dobruski.

I used to think $250 Loveless' were a ripoff
(He was still advertising them for $150)

I passed up many a Ron Lake, Steve Hoel, Jack Busfield, Jess Horn and Bill Pease for well under $500 because I just couldnt afford them (and thought the price was outrageous)

But then..............in high school I could've bought a VW bug for $1500!!!!!!!

I second the Mayo, Snody and Dobruski, and add an Onion to that as well.

18 or 20 months ago I was in Plaza Cutlery and fondling a bunch of knives. A JW Smith small art folder, a Sebenza and a TNT. I really liked that TNT a lot. It was smooth, sharp and slick but $450.00! Dave Delavan is a nice and knowledgable guy and deserved the sale, but the thought of telling my wife I bought a $450.00 pocket knife made me shiver.

Do I kick myself these days? Of course. Not because of the profit I could have made, but because I really liked that knife and $450.00 no longer seems unreasonable, but I just can't afford to get one at today's prices on the secondary market and last I knew, you weren't taking anymore orders.

I tried the Buck Mayo thing. I got it last night and it's cool, but it's not a real TNT. Great overall design, but the devil is in the details.

Missed that TNT big time. Should have just used the evil Visa card.
