Hello,

In action or autobiography books, there is a lot of firearms description and also a lot of ammunition description.

Have you ever noticed an author who knew enough knives to sound as expert as for firearms ?

Ever noticed the name Spyderco or Benchmade in a book ?

The only fiction book I have readen which talk about knives is "A Grande Arte" from the famous brazilian author Rubem Fonseca.
Of course it's in portuguese...
But I think there is a translation in english.

Cheers,
JM

Jerry Ahern wrote about balisongs etc being used in his Survivalist series books. Also Rick M (the name eludes me at the moment)who wrote Red Cell writes about Emersons being used in his books.

"Marcinko" aka "Rogue Warrior" has also written about spyderco. Not that it makes him an expert, perhaps conneseur(sp) would be a better term.

Nemo, there aren't too many knife plugs in books out there. Have to agree that the 'Rogue Warrior' series does mention it.

I read A Grande Arte, the English translation and have 'Exposure' aka A High Arte, Knifefighter, the movie based on the book. The book was deeper but disappointed me.

In Hannibal, by Thomas Harris, Dr. Hannibal Lecter has a Civilian & a Harpy. A hawkbill fan - obviously good taste.

I may be goin' to hell in a bucket, Babe, but at least I'm enjoyin' the ride.

Doe's anyone remember in the book "Silence of the Lambs" that they originally thought the suspect they were looking for could have been a custom knifemaker because of certain types of dust found at the crime scenes?

The fictional series MODESTY BLAISE has much excellent knife-related material. The Willie Garvin character is a former Foreign Legion soldier who carries two throwing knives in various harness/ sheath configuarations. He also fights knife in hand quite a bit ( the first book features a knife duel which concludes with a throw.)
Author Peter O'Donnel did his research very well in knives, firearms and fighting arts (within the constraints of fiction). For example Willie is highly experienced in Thai Boxing, and when you consider the characters were created in 1963 O'Donnell was well ahead of the times.

The "springblade" series by Greg Waker. He knows knives and knife fighting and was the editor of Fighting Knives magazine.
