Knives in Cedar Point

I saw an article in this months Blade that Ohio is leary of knives with blades over 2.5 inches. I haven't been to Cedar Point for many years, and may go this summer. Does anyone know what the security is like these days? Do they have metal detectors at the gates of the park?
Thanks

When I went last year, there weren't any metal detectors. I'm going again this Thursday, and I'll be carrying a Camillus EDC. I hope not to have any trouble, but basing this on my experience from the last 8 times I've been there, I doubt there will be a problem. Unless you make a spectacle of yourself with it they won't be looking for your knives.

RoadRunner,
Thanks. Please let me know after you get back. I tend to be very inconspicuous on when, where, and how I use my knife when in public.

Might I humbly suggest that the EDC might not be the best choice for this occasion. Detectors work on mass, not shape. More steel=more detectability. The all-steel EDC would present a larger "signature" than a FRN handle would.

I live in Ohio and have'nt seen much unfriendly knife activity. It's been a while since I was at Cedar Point but I would be suprised if they put in metal detectors and there was no news about it around here.(Cleveland)

If this is true, I'll now think twice about even going if I can't bring in a reasonable knife with me. It's not that I can't be without one but I refuse to pay money to some place that wants to keep me from exercising in a legal activity.

Just an opinion from an Ohio'r

BTW, there is no size limit in Ohio but local laws do prevail. No Auto's though.

I understood that the laws discussed in Blade were the bizarre statutes of a couple small towns with city councils obviously composed of the kings and queens of sheeple. Wasn't anything to suggest that the state had particularly peculiar laws.

Then again, have never been to Ohio, and yet having lived in the midwest, wouldn't be surprised at much. Might be nice to simply call the local PD or Sheriff's office ahead and check things out.

A couple doctors in Seattle asked me if the knives I was carrying weren't illegal. Since my county goes by the state law, I cheerfully said no. Then I find out later that Seattle has a 3" law or something equally or more silly. You just never know.

Bugs3x,
I thought I remember seeing somewhere that local governments could not impose stricter regulations than those imposed at the state level.

Sesoku, I'll be sure to let you know.

RH, thanks for the advice, but as I said I dont' think that they have metal detectors. If they do I'll just have to go back and put it in the car.

OK, I just got back this morning and the EDC went through Cedar Point just fine. They don't have metal detectors and no one raised an eyebrow when I used it.

No problem. Enjoy your trip, that really is one of the best parks in the world if you like roller coasters. This is the best time of year to go too, late in the day the lines just dissapear. We waited less than half an hour for the last 4 rides we rode, and that included some of the biggest, most popular coasters! My only complaint is that I was yelling a little too much on the Millenium Force and now I can't talk. Other than that it was great!

Cool. Where did you stay when you were at the park? I think I am going the last weekend in June.

I live in PA, only about 3 hours away. If I leave early enough it's concievable to get back the same day. There's lots and lots of hotels around there though, so you shouldn't have any trouble finding somewhere to stay.
