Has anyone had any problems transporting knives in checked airline luggage? How are knifemakers in the US getting their stocks to shows if it is not within driving distance? I'm planning to attend a knife show soon in the US, but I've heard there has been many changes now in Airport security:confused:

I've never had a problem so far taking my work in check in luggage but its always a relief to see the bag show up at bagage. You can also buy a special lock at most airports that will give you a little more piece of mind.

Be sure they have their own zippered pouches because the inspectors dont a pack them back in the suit case very well. Mine were scattered all over but at least were all still in the bag. It is wise to keep them in a separate hard bag inside your suitcase.

No problems here, but it's stressful waiting at luggage pick up. Sometimes I ship my knives ahead to someone who is in the area and can bring them to the show. I also have insurance from Collectors Insurance that covers my knives in checked luggage, mail, shows, everywhere, good peace of mind.

We recently went back to Ohio for Thanksgiving and took a bunch of tomahawks. We packed them in a UPS box in our luggage. When we arrived there was a Inspection Sticker saying they opened it and looked at them but all arrived perfectly.

I flew to New Mexico this October on an elk hunt and brought 16 knives with me to sell at the ranch....no problems. Just carried them in my luggage and told the checkers at the counter what I was up to...came off without a hitch. Just don't wear a turban on your head and shave that beard!

Here ya go Darrel - http://www.collectinsure.com 1-888-837-9537 . Go to the knives and edged weapons page. I have $10,000 for a little over $200 per year, I think I had to pay a small bit more for USPS mail coverage. Has been easy to deal with and I hear they pay up when they have a claim  They also set up at th Blade Show.

I've had no problem knock on wood if it helps..
,the last blade show I went to I had some bowies and knives to show off,
in customs they were more interested in the wife's vitamins she had packed away  getting high on B12
I told them I had knives in the other bag and they said to me yes we could see that in the x-ray.
this was check in luggage not carry on..that's a no no..:o
