Hey everybody I'm heading for Holland at Easter any suggestions of where I can get some new toys?Cutlery shops or makers.

Where in Holland will you be staying? If you are in Amsterdam you must see "the Old Man" knife shop, IMO the best I know of. Let me know where in Holland you will be going and maybe I can give you some specific directions.

Greetings from Holland

Mr. Blonde,

It's been a few years since I was in Amsterdam but, as I recall, The "Old Man" Shop was located on the side street on the east side of the Krasnapolsky Hotel. If it's the same shop I'm thinking of, it has a great selection of knives, from the very cheap to the very exotic.

Edgehead,

Enjoy your time in Holland. Great people, great food and home to several of the world's great beers.

You might want to look up Hill Knives - they have a website but I can't find the URL right now. Hill is in Rotterdam and make a great military knife for the Dutch armen forces as well as wonderful custom knives.

Totally new website!

Hi Edgehead,

When staying in Amsterdam you could visit "the Old Man" but I doubt you will find prices on the knives to be competitive. Mr Blonde e-mailed me that they were asking about $600 for a Chris Reeve/ Al Mar collaboration (the large 7.5" knife) which probably is about double what one has to pay in the USA.

Hill Knives in Rotterdam wer father and son Albert and Frans van den Heuvel (Heuvel is the Dutch for Hill) work is very nice to visit but you have to make an appointement with them.
They make nice stuff especially the custom engraved pieces are beautifull but start from a low $600 for a few scrolls on a custom blade up to ?? whatever you wish for diamonds gold onlays etc. I personally held a $ 5000 knive and it was WHOWWWW ! but not my cup of coffee I like users.

If you need an address/telephone number for Hill knives drop me an email.

PS I will be selling a couple of Hill Knives shortly the commando version survival knife and their first outdoor folder watch for my post in "For Sale"

Yeah, don't think of actually buying any knives over here if you are a US citizen, prices are way too high compared to US prices. I wouldn't worry too much about police searches, the actions in the past were large organized events, which you could identify from afar. I think there was plenty of time to turn around and walk away. Besides, I believe the police did have to ask your permission to search you, and most (if not all) of the actions have been deemed illegal in court. I haven't come across any random searches personally. Have a good holiday!
