Does anyone know of a retailer of production knives located Japan? The shipping costs are killing me...For 50 dollars, I can only buy a 25 dollar knife; the shipping costs go up to and over $25.

It would really, really be appreciated should someone be able to direct me to such a site.

And did you know that knives with blades over 1.5 cm are illegal for EDC here..?

Here's a well reputed dealer in Japan...his knives cost more than $25 though :)

Less than 1.5cm?? Perhaps you need a Fred Perrin Street Surgeon...here's one with a Boron Carbide coating

Well respected Japanese knife store

While I haven't personally purchased from this store, I was directed to it by several European's who had ordered knives from them. They uniformly commented the great customer service. One gentlemen even made it to their retail store location during a business trip and commented on the nice shopping experience.

I have communicated with them via email a few times in my search for authentic Japanese kitchen knives. While that is not something they carry, they were very helpful with my inquiry.

A question about the shipping charges, is the $25 mentioned the actual postage due or, is it actual postage plus handling charges? I know commercial shippers such as DHL, UPS (United Parcel Service), Federal Express, etc. can cost a lot more then the United States Postal Service (USPS). Checking the USPS rates, Global Priority Mail - Variable Weight Envelope (single) 4 - 6 Days $11.00 Max. length 24", Max. length, height, depth combined 36" appeared to be the worst case cost wise and would give delivery in approximately one week.

My rate query at the USPS website for a 1 pound package
