Just bought a Colonial safe from Liberty Safes. The 31 sq ft medium model. So, they have a velcro fabric door attachment for firearms, but has anyone found similar for knives, individually, sheathed etc?? How you guys storing your knives in a safe I guess Im asking? Regards.

Knives? Safe?
The purpose of the safe is to keep your kids from getting ahold of your firearms and hurting themselves or others. I do not put my knives in a safe.
I do keep them in a really large foam lined gun case. It has double lavels and I can store almost all of them there. It is not locked, but then I have no kids in the house. All of my switchblades, errrr, autos, are stored in display cases and never leave the house. They are not locked either.

cbxer55, it depends too on how easily you could replace your knives if someone broke in and took them.

It's a nice feeling when you have room in the safe for your better knives.

Sheaman, good question. I'm looking for a better way to hold and organized the knives in my safe.

Mine are kept in a Liberty, in Bill's multi pouches.

I keep a piece of paper in each pouch, with one end of the paper visible. On the visible end is the number of the pouch (1 through 30).

In a database each knife has the pouch number attached to it, so to find a knife all that is necessary is to look it up in the database, identify the pouch number, find the pouch by the visible number (you can see the papers sticking out in the pic below).

When the proper pouch is pulled out, the paper also has all the knives listed in the same location that the knife is in the pouch, so no searching is necessary! :D

Used to have them all stored in individual pouches, but it was to much of a pain to find a knife (see second pic)...

Michael, those are great shots! Just for added security (in case something happens to you), where is the safe located and what is the combination? We should know.

Anyway, thanks for posting! Bet it's nice to have a glass of wine and just look at them. Yes, it's nice to go on vacation, maybe out of the country where everything is illegal but plastic spoons, and to leave one's collection safely behind, if you'll excuse the expression. Also, if one has some very expensive knives, and they can't carry them all at once, then it's nice to know where they are.

On the post about Sebenzas, I gotta respect those who own them when they use them and scratch them up, but I'd put mine is a safe in a heartbeat! If I had more than one, I'd carry one and leave the rest tucked away. But you've got the right idea.

chefget I hope one day to have a collection to equal yours. As to my collection as I am at college I am sure the RA's would frown upon me putting a gun safe in. To store them currently I have a locking briefcase shoved under my bed.

Hey Michael,

Thats an awesome setup you got! Can you tell me where you get your knife rugs?

Knives? Safe?
Many peoples' knives are worth just as much as others' guns.

The purpose of the safe is to keep your kids from getting ahold of your firearms and hurting themselves or others.
That's one purpose, and I wouldn't want kids or curious visitors getting ahold of my knives any more than I want them getting ahold of my guns.

The primary purpose of having safe storeage is to avoid losing a lifetime's collection to thieves!

I do not put my knives in a safe.
That's your choice of course. But if your collection contains family heirlooms, irreplaceable antiques, or valuable customs you should consider it.

In my experience, it takes about one year per knife when replacing a stolen batch of knives. If they can be replaced at all.

My safes are all packed full of gun's and i have been storing my knives in a huge old antique stackable steel filing cabinet but have been thinking the past couple of days about building a small room about the size of a large walk in closet with a good sturdy door and lock and having it filled with shelves to hold my knives...i think it would look real nice!

I have a Fort Knox Gun safe and keep both Knives and Guns in mine, I just lay the knives out on one of my shelves, I still have plenty of space left in there to tuck knives in the littles places that are open. A Safe is a good thing to have, especially when you have kids around.

Yea but can you fit a couple hundred pounds of Bowie knives in there? not to mention hunters, slipjoints liners, lockbacks. About how many (hundreds) of knives can you fit in there and still store all your hand and long guns?

That's exactly what I'm doing. It will be nice to have knives 'out' where I can see them and easily browse the collection, and at the same time where they'll be out of reach and relatively secure.

My current storage is a steamer trunk and it takes forever to find a particular knife in there. The lock is effective at keeping curious little fingers away but the trunk itself is not particularly secure.

An added benefit to a good safe is the fire protection it offers.
