I am thinking that in this day and age, deep in the third decade of the Twentyh-First Century, we are living in a golden age for cutlery.

Sure, you can find crap cutting tools, but overal . . . .

From low cost to ridiculous, there are knives available today that are as good or better than anything ever made since King Tut got a dagger cold world from a meteorite.

Carbon steel of whatever quality is no longer the only choice. Matrials science and metallurgy have given us a range of steels to choose from.

In many ways, the future is today, whether it is in knife making or artificial "intellegance".

'Steel isnt strong, boy, flesh is stronger! What is steel compared to the hand that wields it?'-Thulsa Doom

In other words, edge geometry, heat treat-maker's mark and user's skill matter the most.

Marketing helps. Gladitorial combat may expedite things.

Right now, we're in the age of nuance, personal budget and modern use.

Buy what you can, use what you buy.

Sure . . .all of that.

But whatever you buy and use, the likelihood that it will be as good as, or better than almost any blade from the past is high.

In a world of choices I have selected my favorites and usually stick with a few types of steels
Im happy with 12C27, 14C28N, victorinox's 1.4110, AEB-L, D2 and Nitro-V to name a few. Im happy without Magna Cut, Magnamax, and Magna Next steels

I tell anyone that listens that the amount of new knife steels is insane. You could buy a knife you never have to sharpen and almost never need to hone. You can buy a sub $10 Bugout clone in D2 at Walmart and throw one in every drawer of your home. Oh! you want a knife that wont corrode for sailing...Salt in H2!
