I just came across an interesting link which reports on the National Crime Index from 2001. According to the report "knives and other cutting instruments" were used in just 14.9 percent of violent crimes that year. Meanwhile, "personal weapons" -- hands, fists and feet -- were used in 31.1 percent of violent crimes. Other dangerous weapons, such as golf clubs, hammers and baseball bats were used in 27.8 percent of violent crimes. And firearms were involved in 26.2 percent of violent crimes."

That's it, let's ban hands, fists, and feet.

Where does a chainsaw fit in those statistics?

Police reports in a local NY newspaper reports a stabbing or slashing every three days or so. It seems divided between street affairs and those that happen in the home. It's unfortunate in that it maligns one of our most useful tools.
