Knives of Alaska and problems therein

Have a had a set of these for some years now, never was impressed. They chip badly and mine never really did hold that razor edge. Is this a common prob? Thinking that they may go to the trash can.

What steel are they? D2? Or the AUS8A?

My brother has the three knife set with the big clever, the small clever with gut hook and the small caper knife. He broke the tip on the small one but the others have held up well. They don't make their D2 to optimal hardness so I have trouble understanding the chipping. It would roll if anything.

I haven't seen the problem. They are up in Denison so you could call or visit them if you are in Princeton:

Yes, was thinking of going up there. Maybe just got a wierd hardness batch or something.
