Knives of Alaska

I've got a presentation series folder with ironwood scales. A great knife! The size is good for everyday carry. It can handle most cutting jobs of 3" folders. The only down side is that the scales were not finished to a high degree. I belive this would have left them too slick for the type of knife they mant to make. I havn't tried any of their other stuff, but based on this knife it's got to be good.

I bought the Brown Bear combo set about 5yrs ago. KOA was pretty much unheard of at that time and they were at a gun show here in SLC, UT. I loved the combo package (as at that time there were no other models available) idea, and they felt like decent knives... I didnt know much about knives at that time.

I have used that set for almost every deer and elk, ever year since! I love them! I wish I had bought the set with the stag handles now due to the embargo. Some of the guys Ive hunted with that are not knife-Knuts envey my set... and many have since purchased a set for them selves... I dont know how they would stand up to "hard" use... but for what they were intended, I have yet to find a better tool at a more reasonable price (im sure some of the guys here could produce a custom knife that would out work the set ... but at what cost?)

I have long told my self I need to buy the camp knife as well, and have yet to do so... my interest in custom knives seemd to dampen my practicle desire for a production knife... but I dont take any of my more expensive knives into the field every time i draw a tag and pack my bags for the Untia's... if there is even a slight chance of bagging game, my BB combo is in my pack.
One thing i would improve is the little steele that came with the set... it works, and it works pretty good... but its just too damn small... I cant count the little cuts ive obtained trying to touch up the edge.. I finally gave up using all together, and honestally... I have yet to HAVE to re-sharpen while dressing game.
Just my 2cent

Greetings,

I recently got the 'Bush Camp' set as a gift for my birthday this year, and can say that they are nicely built knives. The quality of construction, handle material, and sheath are something else for knives in this price range. While I haven't had really any field exprience with them yet, rest assured that they will see some hard use this coming year.

I've used them both for quite a few different cuttin duties around the house, and I'll say one thing; They're Sharp! My most memorable moment, was when I was using the camp knife to trim down some plastic parts I was using to mount a laser-sight to a gun, and I kind of slipped. Needless to say, it took a healthy amount of flesh from my thumb in the process. I sure was a clean cut though! :p

I removed the upper snap strap from the top of the combination sheath that comes with the knives, as I found it got in they way a bit much, and tended to get caught on the blades themselves. The natural fit of the sheath is very nice, and for the most part, the snap is not really needed. If you do a lot of hiking with these puppies hanging off your belt, you may want to leave it on though. It just slips through some slots in the belt loop, so removal and installation is a snap (no pun intended).

Overall, if you're thinking about getting something from them, by all means, go for it. You'll be happy with your purchase. A very well made product, for an affordable price. Kind of a rarity in this day and age.

Oh yes, and the bead-blasted finish is quite good. I've yet to even make a mark on it. :D
