I'm looking at buying a new hunting knife and most the knife distributors around here are recommending Knives of Alaska as a top choice. What do you folks think of their product specifically the wolverine in the hunter collection.

I have a Knives of Alaska-Jaeger Boning Knife in desert ironwood & D-2 that I absolutely love. The D-2 steel holds it's edge amazingly well and the fit and finish is excellent. Knives Of Alaska are a little pricey (especially in desert ironwood & stag) but they make an outstanding product, imho.

Thanks BOOZOO, They do look like a well made knife, I'm just wondering about the price versus other makers. If you have $150 to spend on a new hunting knife do you give it to Knives of Alaska or one of the other guys, Spyderco, Buck, Schrade, Kershaw etc. Anybody have any recommendations, it will be used for butchering wild hogs and other game of less then 200lbs typically. I'd like a heavy nonflexible blade that stays sharp forever and doesn't get slimy when coated with blood.

D-2 Steel will hold an edge a long time, but I'm not sure about the slimy grips.

I have this one, the Yukon in desert ironwood and D2. I haven't had a chance to use it yet but it feels great in the hand.

I have the jaeger, bear cub set with Caribou antler handels. I like em, I use the jaeger as a boning knife, and I have done some caping with the bear cub. I like em.

It looks like consensus holds the KofA is a good but pricey maker but everybody that responded went with the even more pricey grips then the rubberized suregrip handle. I plan on stopping by a few shops today maybe I'll find one with stag grips and fall in love.

Well I didn't get a whole lot of response on Knives of Alaska, I guess because of their price they don't get bought a lot especially with the suregrip handles because they are a bit plain. I got the Alaskan Hunter with the suregrip handle it is a well balanced knife and the fit and finish are very good. I will say the knife doesn't come scary sharp by any means but I like to spend some time getting the edge reworked anyway. I hope to have it ready to go tonight so I can use it in the morning to clean a hog with, that should be a good test for its edge holding ability. Thanks to all who responded at least I won't be alone in owning this line of knives.

Let us know how it goes for you, I like mine but everyones diff. I do think those handles are a lil plain but the steels the same so should work just as good.
