knives of alaska

They are actually in Texas. They make some upscale hunting knives. They have used D2 tool steel for many of their knives which would give them a lot of wear resistance. They also have some knives made of something like AUS-8 which takes a fine edge. I think I only have one of their knives. It is an Alaskan Ulu design. This is sort of like a blade cut out of a disk with a handle along the back of the blade. It is handy for fleshing out hides. You almost never find an Ulu made from a decent steel. This one is D2.

I have the Muskrat beavertail style skinner (rounded, sharpened tip) in D2 and it performs well.

I have their light hunter combo and really like it. Want to get some customers with same style just for the sake of having a custom one as opposed to something off the shelf. Each of the two in the combo are from different steel however.

I don't want to hi-jack this thread, but what about the blad tech ULU? Would that be a efficient ULU styled blade?

Their handles are great! I don;t care much for the D2, but their designs, handle materials, pins, and especially leatherwork is outstanding. I've liked every one I've handled.

Masteroffajitas, The Blade Tech Ulu is made from a good steel and in an interesting design. When used in the ulu position the edge is awfully close to the handle and is likely to be a bit clumsy and a lot messy. In the knife position it would be quite handing for fleshing as well.
