Today I decide ultimately get rid of shadows and put knives on mirror paper (art shops for painters have lot of different papers even silver or gold mirror papers). Of course it does not eliminates all shadows but result is pretty interesting. Light system is californian Sun.

Spyderco Callipso Jr. looks best for some reason:

And physics influens me too...

Thanks, Vassili.

Thanks for the "tip"!

Can only see one downfall using this paper.....dust. I've almost got the dust problem under control, but I still have a long way to go with it. How do you get around the "dust problem" while using this mirrored paper?

And mighty americans:

It was outdoor on the backyard - not too dusty and bit windy, so may be this is why I did not have to much troubles, but paper catch everything pretty fast.

Thanks, Vassili.

Now that's cool. Those came out great. I especially liked the three Busse's in a circle. Creates a cool dramatic effect with the mirror paper. And you even put a few watches in there too. Excellent! :)Now I have to find some mirror paper and try this out. Great idea, thanks for sharing.

Very nice effect, Vassili. Thanks for passing that tip along to us. I added a link to this thread into my knife photo technique compilation (link in my sig).

That mirrored paper would also work well as a reflective surface inside a photo lightbox to provide shadow-reducing fill light. Just paste or tape the paper onto a chunk of cardboard for rigidity.

This is why I get it from art shop at the first place. Professional photo reflector or diffuser cost a lot but this kind of thin ten times or more cheaper then same thing from photo shop, and trash bag is much better diffuser (for sunlight for sure).

However I do not belive in light boxes at all - direct light and light spots make picture more alive less commertial and knife photographer may benefit from it only just because white top reflected in blade, but you do not need box for it just white highlighted screen.

Here what I mean - no lightbox:
