So, I haven't been around the forums much for quite a while and I picked up a couple knives that aren't my typical thing. I typically go for either big hunks of steel or smaller EDCs.
The first (sequentially) is a Stag Damascus Bowie by Dan Graves. For people who have been watching these on the forums, this one was unlisted here and I got it in-between this one and this one being listed here. I like symmetry and stag and Damascus aren't symmetrical, but I really liked the first one I linked to and when Dan sent me the pictures of this, I had to have it. I was concerned a bit when I ordered about how I'd like the feel of a stag handle, especially one that wasn't slabs, but this fits really well in my hand. These are my pics, after a couple Ballistol rubdowns.
The second is a 1095 Harpoon Vest Fighter by Tony Mont that was posted here. This was listed as "priced to sell" and it was a bargain, but I can't see why this would be priced to sell. It is a really nicely made knife. I bought it because I had been eyeing another knife that was somewhat similar, but pricier. I use all my knives for something, and light fighters are hard to really find an efficient use for. But I wanted to work on my fine motor skills, so a I justified a light fighter to myself. I figured I'd give it a try and if I liked it, get the other knife or one like it eventually. But I can't see a need now, because I'm really happy with this one. These pics are after a Ballistol rubdown. I'll do some more Ballistol rubbing on the handle, which is starting to show really well. My handles get treated with Ballistol and skin oil - i.e. I put a few drops of Ballistol on the handle and rub it in with my hand. When I first looked at it, I thought the slabs were too thin, but they're shaped, and swell in just the right place. If you do the pressure and pointing with your thumb thing on your fighting knifes, this fits it perfectly - a very stable and comfortable grip. The knife is also perfectly straight down the centerline, I tried to show that and the sharpened back edge, but didn't get my phone lined up straight enough in the picture of the spine. The knife is balancing on its own on the edge and finger guard. The sheath is a monster, and holds the knife very securely.
