While on a hike yesterday, I started thinking about sharpeners.

I always thought it would be cool if more fixed blades were sold with a sheath that also has a sharpener and pocket for it.

In along the lines of like how the Camillus Pilot Survival knife was set up.

The sharpener type should match the steel type, and the sheath should accommodate the sharpener. A built in spot on the sheath with a flap that acts as a strop (maybe even preloaded) as a bonus.

I personally see a lot of value in the price bump.

Thoughts?

The issue with some of the older fixed blade knives, that came with a stone, was the size.

Most were about 2 1/2" L x 3/4" W and no way to really hold them. So you had to find a way to keep them from sliding, while try to sharpen the blade.

Guess in a pinch, it would do, if you have a pack, bring a folding sharpener or stick.

My DMT would need a slim profile in 3 5/8 x 1 3/16.
Or instead of a fire starter rod, the holder could be made for an Ez-Lap round sharpener.

I guess I'm just a bit curious why more manufacturers don't offer this.

Seems like the knife world is full of all kinds options, gizmos, styles and shapes.

A all inclusive system seems like a good way to sell more stuff as a package deal.

Especially a system that works in tandem.

I only use river rocks to sharpen.........

old time joke aside.......not a bad idear....but just easier to pocket carry a folding dmt diamond sharpener with 2 grit levels.
I do too...it's a great little kit. For fixed blades that have pockets on the sheath I will slip one in, along with whatever else I can fit.

You can hold the knife in one hand (blade up with the tip pointing away from you) and hold the stone with the other hand (just the fingers) then lay the stone on the bevel, find the angle (you can feel it... it is smoother) now slide the stone in small circular motions down the edge. To get both sides, just reverse the knife (point it toward you). This works in the field really well for touch ups. At home, use your bench stone like normal.

That's why I carry multiple blades...😉...........A d why multi blade knives were invented....... Back when you could.only do a quarter of. A critter before you needed to sharpen your knife!
