In today's (April 8) St. Louis Post Dispatch, there was a major article on self defense in which knives were mentioned as an option. Both the positives and megatives of knives were discussed along with a picture of a Kershaw lockback. Knives weren't the focus of the issue, but I was surprised that the use of a knife for self defense was not summarily dismissed. As many of you know, I'm not big on self defense carry, but I do believe that self defense is a person's legal right.

There are some self-defense articles here. Not sure if that link will remain effective for long though...

KNIFE

A knife can be carried in a pocket, backpack or purse.

ADVANTAGES: A knife could scare an attacker away. Knives are easy to get.

DISADVANTAGES: Some experts don't recommend using a knife because it is deadly and an attacker can turn it on the victim.

and you say that they did not summarily dismiss it?
turn a knife on you? has anyone ever tried to take a paintbrush away from a 12 yrold devil child?

oh sure i can do a disarm on someone trying to scare me off, but someone trying to kill you is a different story.

What I meant was that at least the article didn't say that knife carry or use was inherently evil. The bit about disarming the knife user is obviously a sexist remark aimed at women.
