Is there any knife company out there that produces similar type knives and of high quality like Microtech, but doesnt have the high collectable markup on them?

Microtech makes great knives, I'm not sure that you're paying very much of a "high collectible markup" on them.

I mean, it's not like a Spyderco Lum or Spyderco Michael Walker.

So could you be more precise as to what you're looking for (tonight ;)).
Fixed, folder, about how big, liner lock, lockback, Axis...

I have a feeling you'd be pretty happy with a Benchmade 710D2 or a Lone Wolf T2 (S30V). Or a Spyderco Military in CF with BG-42.

YOU'RE still here? I thought you got banned or something.

In a word, not really.

Autos are a limited market. Not many companies make them, and few focus on them like Microtech does. The only others I can think of for productions would be Dalton, Benchmade, Protech, and Piranha. None of whom really make such a wide variety of OTF autos as Benchmade does- and all of the competition OTFs are equally as expensive.

Yes, MOD also made knives with highest quality, no matter what. But I do not know any other manufacturer who put same thin edge as MT. Spyderco has same sharpness level out of the box - they both on top, but Spyderco edge not thin at all. I think that Microtech really unique in this matter.

Sorry, Vassili.

I think that what makes a Microtech more expensive IS the quality. The quality of the materials, the treating of the blades, fit and finish. My Microtech has a flat ground blade, which ads to the expense. I've never had a problem with mine, but I'm sure they protect their brand with excellent customer service. I'm sure there are overpriced knives out there, but in my experience, fit, finish and materials relate directly to what I have paid for knives. I haven't been disappointed by any knife that I've spent more than $150 bucks for.

I will say, though, if you want a bargain, CRKTs in the $70-$90 range usually excede my expectations. They don't by any means match the fit & finish of a Microtech, though.

The DarkOps is by far the best option for you, though I think it's been mentioned. I believe they are even working on an auto OTF, just like the Microtech Ultratechs. I would also check out Master and Mtech too, they carry a lot of what you are looking for but sadly, no autos. Here's a great source for what you need: http://www.directknifesales.com/index.php?cat_id=3
Trust me, Microtechs are not worth it. I own a few and I can say that I spend way too much money on them. Cheaper ones do the same thing right? The 200-400 bucks is better spent on computer games and such. Hope that helped and don't be afraid to contact me if you need any further assistance.

Blais, you really ought to end a post like that with [/sarcasm] to keep it from bleeding over into the next post.

oh yes the link is full of knives like MT's lol, most of them do have a handle and a blade just like MT's, of course thats about the only similarities between them and microtech.

SIFU1A,
Hey now! We don't want the poor kid to think MT's are the only knives on the planet he'd be interested in. The ones in the link are perfect. They have one side of the blade thinner than the other so that with enough strokes through one of those pull-thru sharpeners, they should take the hair right off a kiwi, they shoot out the front of the handle at least 20 times, the look SO cool and badass, and the best part; There is no collectible markup. How could he go wrong? Once he's ordered a few of those to tide him over all he has to do is wait until the new DarkOps OTF comes out and in a few years, when he's got the money saved up, he should be able to find one on eBay after they've been discontinued.

MOD is a great company! I had problems with my MOD CQD MARK II twice and both times I was taken care of within days of sending it in. The 2nd time I had to send it in, I was basically given a new knife and they even paid for my shipping to and from them NEXT day air.

Hows that for customer service?
