What knives do you have that have taken you by surprise? Could be fit & finish, blade geometry/how it cuts or just the feel of it, etc.

I received two knives this week.

1) Spyderco PM2 Rex-45 and it was typical of most recent PM2s. I like it very much but not at all surprised by anything.

2) A Buck Mayo North Shore. It doesn’t slice great but does fine, is a bit thick behind the edge and is slightly off center but I just can’t put the little thing down. It sharpens easily, has great action, good fit and finish and like most Mayo designs, is very attractive.

Let’s see your knives that have surprised you with their quality/design.

Boke Exskelibur 1 Ti framelock.

I’m not much of a boker fan but this knife is outstanding, often it kicks knives 5x its price out of my pocket. Unbelievable slicing geometry. Some of the best action I have ever seen on teflon washers.

CKF Morrf-5 (I keep repeating it  ) , I first saw on BF when Mike asked about the ano preference between two (similar looking) scales. I followed a bit on IG, saw the final product and was very much interested in getting one, I didn't think one would show up in a store that I could buy from inside the EU, but to my surprise one popped up. I was hesitant for a couple days, kept checking how much inventory they had left (I believe they had three total in stock), and when they were down to the last I decided to pull the trigger wondering if it was a good move or not getting into "yet another brand".
But damn didn't disappoint, the Ergos rival Hinderer's, the satin finish is super clean, the CF is perfectly inlayed into the scales, the action is perfect and the lockup. And getting spare parts from CKF is just icing (plus it was a neat Serial #) so all in all, easily shot up the list of favorite knives. Was so impressed that a few weeks later I bought a (even more expensive) CKF Kwaiback.:D

How you liking the Kwaiback?

 Here comes them Injuns ! Circle your boots and get inside the belt . :p

HK feint. Picked it up on closeout and the first big knife I've had in 440c so I was hesitant on the strength. I've chopped a bit with it but it mostly gets used for an ultra-packable machete now. Very comfortable handle and very lightweight for such a long blade. The blade desgin just seems to work a lot better than I expected for such a thin stock, light knife.

Ratweiler, most comfortable handle I've experienced on a full-tang knife with exposed tang and no rubberized handle material to resist vibrations. Also chops well above it's blade length but has some weight behind hit.

Going to have to try one of these after all the rave reviews on here.

How you liking the Kwaiback?

Fit and Finish is perfect, feels like a tank in hand, thicker than I would have expected, the HRD is kind of a neat feature. All in all very happy, my only nagging point would be the same as on the "real Kwaiback" , that the screws go straight through into the scale, I wish they would have used four screws instead so IF something goes wrong you can just get a new backspacer and don't need to fiddle with the show scale.
I did order some extra inlays, since they seemed to sell out super quick, I figured I'd jump on a set.

Just remember the smaller Exskelibur 2 is not a front flipper. I recommend that you get the full titanium version rather than the one with the cf front scale because it seems the cf versions get centering issues more often.

Also it has the typical crappy soft boker screws so it is not the kind of knife you want to be taking apart. I moved mine to tip up and have left the screws alone since after that.

Look how thin it is compared to the large 21. Also it is a very thin knife and isn’t a “hard use overbuilt” knife but is outstanding as a knife....not so much as a pry bar.
