I have a story about the knife that wouldn't stay lost ! It was an early model Endura that I promptly broke the tip off of after it was only several weeks in my possession. I would take that knife everywhere ! And use it...a lot ! I would use it to break down cardboard boxes next to the compactor.....and then go away and leave it open on a bale somewhere....and when I would go to reach for it later on ....I couldn't find it ...I'd panic .... ( because we ALL just hate to lose our "pal",... even if it was slightly deformed !)...and sure enough someone would walk through the door with it in their hand and say...." does this belong to anyone here
?". I'd put it back in my pocket and vow to be more careful! Vows somehow just don't seem to stick with me!
I was forever leaving it out open on a retail shelf while I was stocking during business hours. ( NOT a bright thing to do !.....You should have seen some of the looks I'd get from moms when their little ones would find it... open... before I could...LOL!.....Once I had to sprint down the isle after a toddler who I spied out of the corner of my eye waving it at his little sister....No I wasn't fired...luckily! ). Ocassionally I couldn't find it for days at a time..... and I knew damn well I had left it open on the retail floor somewhere....so I would go home at night and resolve myself to the fact that I would have to buy another....with a virgin tip....and darn if one day I'd be out on the floor stocking... and it would "appear" in front of me on the shelf....sometimes two or three days would have gone by.... and the shelves would have been "shopped" by a LOT of customers ! Another time it fell out of my pocket in a MEN'S ROOM "stall" at a theater. After the movie was over, I went to "fondle" it; realizing it was missing, I searched in, under, and around the theater ....as I was about to give up hope I thought I might try the floor of the men's room..... There it sat patiently waiting for me.
About six months ago I just couldn't find that knife anywhere. I looked.... and looked....and looked....you would have thought I was four and lost my "security blanket" ! Several weeks went by and I finally ordered a CRKT "Point Guard" ( boy was I unhappy for a while with that purchase....I have since come to appreciate its characteristics....like all GOD's children....I try to find something to love in a particular knife...especially if I have paid cash for it! ). Long story short....several weeks ago I was moving the trash cans around and behind some dead leaves I found the "Spidie". It had spent the Seattle winter outside none the worse for rain. It washed up real good and showed little signs of rust!
Oh....yea....I lost it again last week....but the dry cleaner gave it back to me when I went to pick up my wife's clothes????........Go figure????
