Please feel free to correct me on any of this . . .its just my collection and perception.

Just clicking around the knife world on YouTube and had a thought:

We are blessed with a plethora of knives of every sort, type, cost range and level of quality today.

When I was a kid in the 1960s, most kn ives looked like some variation on a clip point Bowe regardless of size or purpose. The other common blade profile in my head fro that time was the up-swept tip iconified by the Randall trademark.

Some knives were deemed to be better than others, but that range seems small in retrospect. The new wonder steel in the 1960s was whatever stainless was available, 440C or similar I guess. The only genuine premium production knife maker that I am aware of back then was Randall and their status in the industry was still evolving.

Today, we can find a knife for any purpose at any price point and at any level of quality . . .that is the best part.

Now the worst part; How to decide on which knife from what maker!. And that is the less-best part!
