Are any of you considering giving knives to your father for Father's Day? I got mine a Spyderco Rookie, as it is an excellent knife, and a good value at the prices they're selling at now, and, as they are no longer being manufactured, it offers a certain degree of "exclusiveness" (for lack of a better word) as there are a limited number of Rookies out there. Is anyone else giving knives?

I gave my Dad a CRK&T KFF for fathers day (OK, sue me. I gave it to him a week early). He loved it.

Luke... I am your father.

(That's what you get for having the name Jedi Knife)

All that said, I would appreciate a Benchmade 710, 905, and 800.

Last year I got my dad a Case X-changer [stag] and a custom Freeman. He liked them but he wasn't as happy with them as I would have been.

My father is already enjoying his Case Russlock. But then...he is kinda old fashioned..and he has about 600 Case knives.
Luckily, it's not for carry...otherwise he might have to spend some money on new pants.

A Hibben designed United Cutlery model for that wild side or a good custom.

I wanted to get him a BM 330 Pearl non serrated, but he's not into knives.

So I give him money; he likes that.

I also tend to give knives as presents. My wife doesn't understand it but the recipients [I choose them carefully] always appreciate them. I prefer to give relatively inexpensive customs rather than production knives: A much more personal touch, and I much prefer customs anyway. I find George Tichbourne and John Freeman's to be good choices. A chef's knife, bread knife, serving knife, fork or set, or something similar is usually appropriate for any man or woman who has a passing acquaintance with the kitchen, even if you suspect they'll have little need or comfort with a hunter or a folder. I also like to support custom makers for those gifts I have to buy, rather than some faceless company that makes the ties and hankies and other useless widgets I otherwise might line up in the mall to purchase.

How about one of those new Buck 2000's with BG-42 blades? Classy and affordable, not to mention a usable performer.

The only person I give gifts that are NOT knives is my wife (and that's only about half the time). I haven't really deceded what I'm getting dad maybe a Buck 110 or something similar. He's a farmer and evryone knows he needs a knife.

Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get me.

I got my Dad a Browning barracuda (2" blade). He will not carry a heavy knife so it had to be a small pocket-knife. I picked the Browning over a tiny Spyderco because the liner-lock was easier to manipulate and the scales are softer for better grip. My father is getting into the late 60s and he breaks his thumbnail on his Treebrand Boker, but he can pinch the blade of the Browning.

My dad got a Browning Auto-5 Commemorative I got from one of Bruce Voyle's auctions. Dad has shot a Begium A5 12gLW for more years than I've been alive. He cann't go hunting much anymore because of his shoulder. But I remember many times that he would hip shoot a rabbit or dove. Never missing. Next project is getting him an A5 .20g lw for Christmas. I hope this will give him a second chapter in the field.

The older I get the more we are alike and the closer together.

God Bless,

TS

My father is a computer consultant, so there was only one choice: the Cyberknife Cuda variant by Camillus. He loves it, and gets great comments from other technical types. Besides, it was only fair that I give him a knife after he gave me his WWII army issue fixed blade, still sharp and in its original sheath.
