"I think a new thread is in order, s-k! Corkscrews and knives with corkscrews! I have a number to add! " Waynorth

Excellent, I'm really excited about this one. Can't wait to see what develops. Can I post corkscrews or just knives with corkscrews? Here is one to start. This is an old Solingen made knife. The mark on the tang is A.W. Jr Solingen. There is an A.W. Cutlery in Goins 1900-1920. I don't know if this is the same. If anyone knows, please let us know.

Great pattern s-k! Levine would probably call it a "dog leg" serpentine jack. Serpentine because it's somewhat "S" shaped, and "dog leg" because it has one end larger besides the "s" shape.
Re: the tang stamp, perhaps the son took over the business??
Well, I've got to get busy, and get some pics in this thread. I think corkscrews are close cousins of knives, so it's O.K. to show some in this thread! Anyone object??

Thanks for the response waynorth. You're up awfully early/late today. Looking forward to your posts. It is a dull and dreary day here so not the best conditons for taking photos, but I'll see what I have in the 'archives' Have a great day.

O.K. Here's a nice old Empire! 1856-1930

That is a stunning knife. Thanks for the post waynorth. Here is a late 1800s champagne pattern knife. There is a serrated blade on the left for cutting the wire around champagne corks, hence the name. Has a glove hook as well.

I have always been led to know these particular breeds as Bartenders Knives, the corkscrew, the spear blade and the pen blade. All the cutt'n tools that one would need to open up most types of bottled libations down at the local "blade forums pub"..

The glove hook evokes a more "elegant" time! Nice one s-k!
Do you know its source/maker?

a.w. could be anton wingen? or a.w.wadsworth? not sure which or maybe something else.

Great Camillus El Lobo. The name on the tang is Stanes. I think this must be a merchant name not a maker. There was writing on both sides of the handle but it is so worn I can't make anything of it. Thanks everyone.

@smiling-knife
That`s a pretty nice knife you have there!

A.W. JR Solingen is the old german knife company "Anton Wingen Junior". They closed their doors in 1995 as I`m correct.
The brands Othello, Red-Point and W. Clauberg also belonged to them.

Cheers,

Wolfgang ;) :D

Thanks flylock. Both of those suggestions make a great deal of sense. I'll look in to it. In the mean time, you'll recognize this co. I think this one is from the 1920s or so. By the way, the crown bottle cap was invented in 1904 so if you see any knife/tool with a cap opener it was made there after.

Thanks for the information wolfgang... you guys are too fast for me.

I'll try to sneak this one in because I have no where to show my corkscrews. Thi is one of my favourites. This A1 double-lever is made by James Heeley and sons of Birmingham 1880s. Please let me know if this is inappropriate and I will remove it. Thanks

Here are some of my Bruckmanns. They don't all have corkscrews, but most do.

In most cases, I think they are sunnyd, but some, for instance that Schrade with it's nailfile, is more like a pocket or purse knife. Nothin's black or white, just shades of gray.

Hi Bob W. Those Bruckmanns are fantastic!!! Thanks for posting them. I have a few but no photos at the moment.
