I have noticed that I see a lot of knives with what I call 'long rectangle pulls'. Like the one on the main blade in this thread:

Are they called something? Does one company make more of this kind of pull? I rather like the larger ones vs. the little thumb nick. What models should I look at to get some knives with the long pulls like that?

Also, if you feel so inclined, please post pictures of you knives with the long pulls. :)

Many large knives like folding hunters with long blades have them. I am with you I think they are way cool...Coke Bottles, Beaver Tails, Fiddle Backs. Like them all. I like big blades with double pulls...

I have seen some that the long groove runs all the way back to the end of the blade...I have no idea why

It is normally called a "French pull", sometimes you will see the long pull with notches like this Marbles Stag English Jack, then it's called a "Matchstrike Pull".

They are also called French nail marks or nicks. Here are two jack knives with the long nail marks. The first by Boker and the second by Wostenholm. LC beat me to the post. Anyway here are some older e.g.s

I like the long nail nicks too. Here is a Schatt and Morgan English jack and Queen Dan Burke rancher. The matchstriker pulls do look nice.

Very nice Thomason. That little S & M English Jack is high on my future purchases list. That's a great photo too.

I'm curious.......... How does one put that kind of nailnick/pull in? Or....... the matchstriker one?

Eludes me but what do I know.
