There was a thread posted in the now re-opened Kershaw forum (Kudos to all who helped revive the Kershaw forum! :thumbup: ) where a member posted a Talon with no factory edge (assumed to have been missed by QC):

This got the rusty gears slowly moving in my otherwise preoccupied brain. I do quite a bit of whittling & carving off & on throughout the year, and oftentimes I have to rework factory edges. Some knives come with adequate edges, other just plain suck. (There's not a nice way to say it.
)
I've often wondered over the last few years whether some mfrs. would consider making certain models with primary grinds, but not put factory edges on them; this would allow someone like me to put a more specialized edge on mine, instead of having to re-work a factory made edge.
So what do you guys think: legitimate request, or am I totally off-base with this? If it is a reasonable idea, what mfrs. do you guys think might actually be willing to do something like this? (For instance, Spyderco seems particularly interested in input and suggestions from their endusers, maybe they'd be open to an idea like this.)
