Hello all, I was wondering about how comfortable knives with paracords are. I like it mainly because it's simple and easily replaceable. Do you guys have pictures of your paracord knives I can see?

Thanks in advance :)

In my experience...they are not comfortable.

Something like, say, micarta, is comfortable and will never need to be replaced.

Much simpler solution.

Depends on the knife and how you plan to use it. For the most part, paracord alone one step up from nothing.

Theres is a thread in the Becker forums and the ESEE knives forum on cord wraps.

Heres a shot of my wrapped Becker Necker.

Like flashpoint said, its basically one step up from nothing.

That being said, if the wrap is well done it can make a perfectly acceptable handle. I don't think a knife with a cord handle is ever going to be as nice as the same knife with a nicely textured and/or contoured Micarta or G-10 handle though.

A paracord wrapped handle can be quite nice, if one knows what they are doing...

This is a Spyderco Mule that I wrapped with a Strider Wrap, and while I have plenty of other handles for it, I still have it just like this...

And here is another Spyderco Mule that I wrapped...

This is a Bob Alderman custom, that I bought with the express intent to wrap it... I have since got better at wrapping, and it needs to be re-wrapped.

And a simple wrap of the same knife...

Cord wraps can be nice, if you ask me...

Hi

IMO Cord wraps have but one aim!

A convenient way to store cordage on a minimalist blade designed for survival purposes.

A single layer of paracord over the bare steel is pretty thin and may not be all that comfortable. However multiple layers or when done over a spacer material to give them some thickness they are as comfortable as just about any knife. I like the feel of my Desert Storm EK's..they feel good in hand and have good grip.

I think if it's wrapped tight and even in layers then it should be fine. I've seen and held some real bad wrapped knives and this of course turns me off. then I have held some very nicely wrapped knives and couldn't believe the grip and comfort. it takes practice and some trial and error to find what wrap design works better for your hands. that's the sweet thing about it is you can just remove it and start over.

Here is a knife I made with a paracord handle. This cord is not removable. It was soaked in epoxy over a leather base. Very comfortable!

I generally don't like cord wrap handles at all but IMO it can work well on smaller knives.
If you use a Japanese style wrap with 550 cord on small knives it's comfortable, grippy and looks pretty good too. :)

When I do wraps, I usually put a spaced between the tang and the cord, to give some shape to the handle. Sometimes I also do 2 layers of cord for smaller knives.
