Knives you don't use

What do you do with those knives you don't use, or hardly use?

I have them safely tucked in several drawers. If I have nothing to amuse myself on a rainy, lonely Monday, I take them out and fool around with them for hours and admire their designs and examine closely the mechanics of its workings.

There have been times when I seriously consider putting them up on the wall as decorative pieces just to remind myself that I have one heck of an adventure acquiring them. That I have gone through quite a bit to finally possessing them.

So what do you do with your unused knives?

I've got 3 Vic. Huntsmans and an old OD Green Bucklite in my drawer along with my wife's old SAK and my grandpa's slipjoint. I don't do much with them except move them when I move. Someday I'll give the two Huntsman's that haven't been sharpened to a popsicle stick to my kids. The main blade on the other one is only about 2/3 its original width.

The knives that I don't "use" are scattered all-over my house, in drawers, sitting on end tables, hidden "here and there"...And my "Bowie" collection is proudly hanging on my front-room wall.

I sell them here or on Ebay. I set myself a limit by having to fit everything into a single lockable case, out of my one-year old's reach. So, I have to keep getting smaller and/or more expensive :D knives to keep within my space limitations.

I have the same problem, a whole drawer full of queens. Yeah, I take them out when I'm bored, but sometimes I admit, "What was I thinking?"

I'm beginning to think that the E-Bay option is a good one, if I could get most of my money out of the knives in a transaction. However, I think most of the knives will slowly be purchased by friends over a long period.

I have two complete CASE slipjoint displays in my house,(one single, and a double display) and won't ever use any of those knives. I have a large number of knives stored in my safe that won't ever be used, mostly CASE, and a couple MooreMaker, Eye Brand, PUMA, Bulldog, and such. One older fire proof rail road safe contains most of my slipjoints, and my gun safe contains most of my users on the top shelf.

I have them stored all in the same container...which is kinda dumb actually...'cos if someone broke into my house they'd all be right there for the taking...

First, for some preventative maintenance, I apply my Marine Tuf-Cloth to the blades and Tuf-Glide to the pivots. After this, I put them back in box and store them in an ammo can until the time comes when I decide to carry them.

Someday I'll get around to either building or buying a display case for my knives. :)

I keep mine in one of three of those knife roll up bags I have that is sold by Smokey Mountain. I, like others here take them out from time to time to play with and fondle them. I also take some out to rotate with some others that are in my Cup-O-Knives on my dresser that is full of my EDC assortment.

Gotta love those sharp things......

Mine sit in drawers. Some get played with once in a while, but some never even get looked at. None, however, are "junk knives" that I wouldn't even give away as gifts. Those I've long ago thrown out or abused to the breaking point. The list of "unused but decent" includes such things as a BM Sentinel, Boker Nealy neck (lost some of the parts :( ), Schrade Clipit, CRKT Mirage (one of two is not used) CS tanto, CS SRK (second), A.G. Russel caping knife, and others...

The ones I don't use as an EDC are in cherry wood display cases hanging on the wall. I do open the case's up and pull one out to play with while on the computer. I have a bunch of autos and some balis, so they are fun to play with. Then I clean that one up, put it back and pull out another TOY.
This rotation also helps is keeping them clean.

Once I figure out that I am really not going to use a knife I start looking for a good home. Nearly all of my friends now have a high-end knife for company thanks to my occasional buying and trading errors. :)

I have a large older Ka-Bar folding knife which my late Grandmother was the last person to sharpen (yes, it is still sharp and she did so when in her early 80s). It stays in the safe along with a Puma Emperor which I just never seem to carry although I spent a pretty penny on the Puma.

Sell 'em or trade 'em off.

Eventually I'll be down to one knife. At least, that's the plan. I think I'm kind of stuck in a perpetual "This one is on the way, this one is on the way out, and this one is currently being used" -- but at least I'm down to two or three in each category. Used to be five or six.

I just can't leave well enough alone.

Got this fancy box with multiple small felt lined drawers to keep them in. For me, it makes it easy to open and survey the lot of them and then decide what to carry for that day. The case can lock in the event of children running around and to keep prying eyes away.

Most of them are stored in two tool rolls. The rest are either in small boxes, baskets, sheaths, or just sort of lying about the house. I'll take out a toy here and there for playtime, and, like someone else stated, maybe someday build or buy a frame or showcase to display some of them.

First off dude i constantly love your so true logic !!
But with 4 crazy daughters it's tuff to post when i want to !
