Hello STR. Where can I see the knives you have done. I looked at some on the forum but I think I saw several photos somewhere else? Thanks
RKH

Well, a lot are here in various threads but also if you click my screen name you can follow the link to my homepage and see my two photo galleries there. I've been editing some in there to try to remove older pics to make room for new ones.

The album that comes up first is one, then the one for STRprojects is another. I have another album there with nothing in the way of knives in it currently. I started that for a for sale album but since starting this forum and being a member here I don't much need it.

If you don't get your fill there I have a ton more stored and could maybe find one if I knew what you were looking for.

I tend to delete all the pics off my computer every year and start fresh so many times what is up for me that is readily available are just current year.

Also, many of my older pics are not as good as some I post today since I use a digital now for most of my final pics. Still there are a lot of scans all over also.

Thanks for asking.

I saw an All titanium rice beater and thin Gent all ti gents folder. One picture showed ruler about 7 inches open which is size I like for EDC. Also, Have a Fallkniven U2 like to have clip and thumb stud added. What are the prices on these add ons and the knives you make. And waiting time. Thanks
RKH

I can't do anymore clips on the Fallkniven U2. Don't have them anymore. I had what I had an once they were gone that was it.

Thumb studs are no problem. Those type smaller jobs generally get knocked out and returned pretty quick. Usually 24 hours but I do have a lot going on all the time so I like to prewarn that it could be longer.

The Rice Beater I no longer build but the thin gents folder is the Ouparator that I still make.

Those run anywhere from $235 to $255 for .070 thickness and from $285 to $350 for the .100 to .110 thickness. I just finished one for a right hander and mailed it off to Israel the other day in .110. Nice little tank of a folder.

The south paw lefty I did a while back is a good example of my work also in the thicker version which is the one I prefer personally, although I've sold a lot of the thinner ones also. My best knife is that little flat grind 1095V blade and quite a performer in my opinion. The stainless is a fine knife too but I like carbon steel. :D

Time frames vary on bigger jobs but I'm pretty sure that even my slowest turn arounds are still going to be among the fastest you'll ever find. I don't know for sure because obviously most of the time I am stuck here in my little world but I do tend to get after things when they are here unless something unforseen keeps me away from my shopt.

Thanks for the info STR. I will look at website and try to figure what I want and that would be a lot. I am a real aficionado(not sure if I spelled that right) of the Wharncliffe blade. I will decide which one and that may take me a few days and get back with you. To me knives are a great passion and joy and owning them and using them bring a lot of satisfaction. Thank you!

No problem. I'm fairly easy to find. :)

STR, is your personal bird and trout EDC folder made from scratch or did you use an existing knife or frame for it. And yes, I wpould like carbon steel...D2 or 1095v is this a High carbon or a powdered metal steel? And what are the dimensions on your Bird and trout EDC? And can you show me a picture of the 1095v and size you were talking about in earlier post? Thanks and sorry for all the questions.

The Bird and Trout is a one of a kind I won't do another of. I took a blade Bob Dozier made that was a fixed blade he calls the "SweetWater" and converted it to that folder. You can see the links to that in my "What I do" sticky thread and I believe it was post number 11 if I'm not mistaken.

I had done one of Bob's knives up as a folder several months before mine for a very good friend that wrote me and asked me if I'd turn a blade into a folder that Bob Dozier made for him with no handles. I said yeah and he had Bob drop ship it to me to convert only my friends was a frame lock. I liked it so much I decided to go for broke and make me a lockback of my very own which I really like but don't do many of. I have only sold one of my lockbacks. They are a different league of craftsmanship. I promised Bob I would not make a habit of doing more of them like that using his blades. Back then he was not making folders anymore and I had always wanted a Dozier folder so I just made my own.

On the1095 steel. Its one of my favorite steels. I used it all my life and grew up with it and its just a great all around cutlery steel. In my opinion ever since that steel was created everyone has always been trying to beat it and its still one of the better more versatile cutlery steels around. I mean you can use it in a small whittler or wood carving blade with a highly polished push cutting edge or you can use it in a big chopper with a very aggresive course finish blade. You can heat treat it hard or you can make it softer and it functions at all of them. I just like it and I've always had this love for gun blued metal and steel that ages with some character changes from the patina that develops over time so I often times will gun blue the blades which I think gives them a very classy blue black appearance.

STR, your personal is a really unique and nice looking knife. I thought because of the v after 1095 it was some new or different steel. And yes, I think 1095 is a very good steel. I am not totally sold on the super steels. I have some Dozier knives and like them a lot. Could you show me what 1095folder you were talking about when you said it was one of your fine folders and the size as I like a knife about 7 to 7.5 inchers open. And I like to do a little whittling.. OH, put me on your list for a knife. Thanks.

I'll build you an Ouparator then. What thickness, right or left handed, and do you want it with one side G10 or both sides titanium? (Of course the G10 one side is only going to look good on the thicker one so its just for that one.)

You'll love the knife I make. I think I should rename it something like STR Tankbuilt or something but my good friend Dirk who goes by Oupa on the forums drew up this design on paper and I liked it a lot and basically he gave me his blessing to make as many as I want. Needless to say I do. :D

If you want 7" overall length I can shoot for that and it will be on par with what I've already done for a bunch of other guys.

I'll see if I can find the links. The one I just did is on the front page here under 1095 Right hand Ouparator or something like that.

Hey RKH! STR made me an Oupa in the .100 titanium, and teal g10, and it's one of my favorite knives I own! Top two up their with my sebbie! very versatile blade, and a great guy to work with! My knife took less than a week after I finally decided what I wanted!
Hope you like your oupa as much as I like mine,
Steven

STR, Yes I believe I read that thread. Right handed and only thumb stud on one side. If I go with blued blade will it add drag in cutting ability like I noticed with blackened blade. I would like a lanyard hole and low rider clip.I have a small classic sebenza and where would this be on the .100 thickness as I want fairly thin but not so thin to be uncomfortable in use. And steve thanks for your comment on STR's Opurator he made for you. Sounds great! I am not sure on the G10 addition. I will think about that. Oh, my wife wants the computer, so I will check in a little later
RKH

Trust me the little .110 version I've still got enough ti for will be a nice little comfortable folder for you.

Gun bluing won't be a baked on layered finish like that so no effect there at the edge.

My small classic Sebbie is like right at .120 thickness so its close. It probably started out at 1/8" thickness but was flat grinded to uniform thickness. My preference is the slightly thinner and I'd go full titanium personally but I've got both and use both. G10 is strong and light but on a folder this small weight is not an issue either way.

STR

Great! Thanks STR. I got in here before my wife grabbed the computer.
