Knives you should have never let go

Yeah, I know. This has been done before, but I just found this old scanned pic and was reminded of how stupid I've been in the past. I know I'm not alone on this, however, so I'd sure like to see some pics of the ones that got away.

Here's my first installment. From what I remember, this Kevin Cashen bowie has about a 9" blade of forged L6, with nickel silver guard and one of the nicest pieces of stag with a nickel buttcap. I can't even remember who got it.

Danbo,

Doh, I can feel your pain, that's a sweet one. I traded this camp knife by Bill Burke, it felt real good in the hand and was well balanced and quick. On the bright side hopefully the new owners are enjoying them as much as we did.

Danbo, you go through so many knives, how can you remember all the ones you should have held onto?

I try to at least save some pics of them. :)

Hey, some of us count on the fact that Danbo lets so many knives get through his big paws! Heck, it's how I've gotten about half my knives!

The only knife I ever regret trading off, was a large CRK BG-42 Sebbie. I kicked myself over THAT one for a long time.

You know, having thought about this, I can't honestly come up with one knife that I have sold or traded that I feel was a mistake. Everyone of them has provided me with the money to purchase knives that I have kept and have no intention of selling or trading.

I feel the same way, but I'd also like to add that every time you sell a knife, you give it a chance at a new life, and that's good enough for me.

Danbo,

While you should be shot for letting go of that Cashen Bowie,
you should be terminated with extreme prejudice for ditching these...

However, I would be in favor of clemency.

Well, I traded that knife in order to get a couple of my favorite Fowlers in my collection, so I know what you mean Keith, but if I had the money from work to get them I would have kept that one too! :D

Yeah, but then Roger could not have gotten the stag one, and then you wouldn't have gotten it, and then I would not own it.

It will be mine until I die or get Alzheimer's, whichever I remember first.

I just went through a photo folder of mine of all the knives that I have traded or sold. Each one served me at the time and is hopefully giving someone else enjoyment now.

You guys mentioned this: As one door closes another opens...

The one knife that I would purchase back if I could? this one:

This is the only knife I regret parting with. There is a story in this knife that will show why it is in it's intended owner's hands now. It was not meant to be for me, but I was glad to have been there for Bob's wife. You can read about it here.

That still ranks as the nicest piece of stag I have ever had on a knife - as well as one of the nicest knives I have ever owned.

Coop,

What a giving person you are, wonderful gesture...have you received the knife from Max? And are there pics? Preston

Coop, your story made my day. I know that this is somewhat of a hijacking, but do you have pics of blade you got in return? I absolutely must have the last page of the story, if possible.

Look first. This will surprise ya...

I forgot that the story continued. Max and I had many a nice conversation on phone and email. After finding out more about him and his skills, in the end I allowed him to make me something HE was good at. At that point it didn't matter much, just that he'sd be happy making it and not out of his league. (Making a delicate engraved folder is WAY out of his league, and he told me so. :))

I got a Big Honkin'© Camp knife and sheath out of the deal. A rustic finish and a REAL grippy rubbery handle. Max told me he put his heart into it, and I believe him. That was most important. That inset is a combo of his mark on the blade and on the sheath.

Above I say I "regret parting with it." Actually I regret nothing. I *miss* parting with it. I'm pleased again. Thanks for asking. :D
